Melting polar ice caps are making the far north more accessible to countries like Russia and China, meaning Canada has to do more to protect its vulnerable northern frontier — and, in turn, protect the U.S.

doesn't miss
Climate change but as a meta game speedrun bonus to resource production.
Melt ice caps faster to get a significant production boost for the endgame.
I like to fantasize about all the Canadian chuds turning into anti imperialists once the threat becomes more apparent. Alas, Canada's culture is too similar to America's
people were cheering austrias anschluss, welcoming the nazis with flowers, why would this be different?
The funny part here is that Canada doesn't really have any cultural identity aside from not being the US.
This is literally true. Historically, settler Canadians have only had three identities: subjects of the queen, Quebecois, and not-American. That’s all they’ve run on to build a nation.
I get really irked at a Canadian friend whenever they talk about America/Americans and act as if it's so different from Canada. They make it seem like it's almost as culturally different as say, France from America. I think Canadians perceive the differences from the US much greater than they actually are. Also, (idealism warning) I think they just like to shit on America whenever they can, and annexation takes that away from them
I am Canadian so I have to deal with that all the time, it is quite annoying so I understand how you feel. If you ask a Canadian what it even means to BE Canadian, you’ll always get some weird vague answer that pretty much amounts to nothing (free healthcare, being polite, poutine, maple syrup, being nice, you get the idea). I think they have a chip on their shoulder regarding Americans.
Exactly, and this is likely going to be the biggest barrier to being absorbed into the US. It would undermine very semblance of identity that Canada was cobbled around.
Like when Canadian independence is no longer worth maintaining it will fold, in the end canadian culture is just another regional variation like Minnesota has a different culture than Connecticut.
My Liege, it appears that United States is about to attack Canada in a war of aggression
This is because of President Donald Trump's Babbling Buffoon personality trait
America rolls a d100 wild ~~surge~~ presidential election every four years; only 1% chance of sudden apocalypse, good odds no? 46 rolls so far as of October 2024 and so far so good.
Oh also there's a 102% chance of getting the war criminal trait with a 2% margin of error but we don't bother rolling that.
if you're gonna blow up trade with the rest of the world you gotta get your input materials from somewhere
Trump invades Canada, takes over the big cities. Dems in 2028 run on freeing Canada, win, then don't follow through saying they needed more votes. Republican wins 2032 and finishes taking over the rest of Canada.
Wow just like fall out
This will be quite an interesting crisis to watch play out, ultimately Canada is a constitutional monarchy and is the head of state who will be the final say on it. If Trump makes a state visit to the UK it will be to discuss it.
Holy shit that guy isn't dead yet. Last I read he was taking potions for his cancer
You really think that's gonna play into it?
It has to.
Now, whether he goes against it or gets something out of it in exchange I don't know. But we're entering a period where we're going to see how the world is really structured. The King of Denmark stepped in for Greenland despite liberals always pretending they're powerless tourist attraction these days, I see no reason why the British monarchy wouldn't be involved in the Canadian issue. These monarchies are real monarchies with real organisational impact on these countries if they choose to use it.
he's gonna do it
We're in the fallout timeline somehow
The opening shots of the resource Wars.
God I hope Canada publicly asks Russia to give or sell them nukes; not cause I want Canada to use them, but to really put fear into the chuds.
