Probably UTC+1 as most of western Europe is in there, lots of people so more opportunities for me to make friends! Though UTC-8 has a lot of beautiful nature and the US west coast.

Also, checkout this cool population by time zone chart

What the heck is that map projection? It's like Mercator on steroids.

[-] psoul@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Mercacator projection

[-] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

That would be regular Mercator, actually. Greenland is as big as Africa in regular old Mercator projections.

Edit: although maybe with a slight uniform vertical squish

I thought Russia was one time zone

[-] hansolo@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

That was (edit:NOT) the USSR.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 1 points 4 months ago

Weird, I’ve always thought that is was like China

You're right, I don't know what I was thinking. Other than "commies hate time zones."

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 2 points 4 months ago

I think we are both wrong, China has one time zone. Russia and USSR did not.

Same. Angola to Sweden - the variety of environments and food cultures are massive.

In terms of practicality, probably UTC+0 since, after hardening my tech, it tends to be my default timezone when I'm browsing the net.

[-] RBWells@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

I think I'd stay in UTC -5 because there's plenty here on the east coast of the US, can go to big cities, mountains, Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico beaches; a lot of the populated part of Canada, Pacific coast in Peru.

I could make it the rest of my life with those options.

Good choice. I'm doing pretty good so far without ever leaving it.

I'm assuming that you mean a "time period". Is that correct ?

[-] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 9 points 4 months ago

I'm glad you thought of this, because I was very confused by this post. I thought the question was asking which group of countries you'd want to be allowed to visit.

[-] potentiallynotfelix@lemmy.fish 5 points 4 months ago

You thought correctly. I did mean which time zone.

[-] Walk_blesseD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago

UTC + 10 is pretty good

[-] metaStatic@kbin.earth 4 points 4 months ago
[-] KazuchijouNo@lemy.lol 4 points 4 months ago

I'd say UTC-6. Mostly because that's where I and most of the people I know live. However, It's a bit limiting, only 3 big countries and some pacific Islands.

My second choice would be UTC 0, because I think it covers a lot of land

[-] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago

Cst. My current time zone, unfortunately life is to good here. Does that mean I can only exist half the year though? How does daylight savings interact with this

[-] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 months ago

UTC+08 Id be having a great time with all of China to explore.
