It is amazing how much fear Luigi has put into the establishment.

[-] Asmodeus77@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

This was the straw that broke the camel's back. I remember seeing something a while back on r/coolguides about alternatives for various sites, including Lemmy as an alternative to Reddit. Today, I saw the writing on the wall and decided it was time.

The worst isn't just the Luigi thing, it's that in the future, they will most likely expand it to include any topic that the administration disapproves of.

my sentiment exactly. this is just the start of it. once they became a publicly traded company, it was no longer a social media for the people. may free speech live on ✊

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Butt fuck pastries for elfs!!!

See, that sentence may not make sense, but we have free speech here, so I can say it as much as I want!

BUTT FUCK PASTRIES FOR ELFS!!!

welcome! it ain't perfect here, but at least it's decentralized and harder to manipulate in favor of the oligarchs.

[-] AizawaC47@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

I am new here, and I actually like everything about it. It’s very simplified. But the fact that it’s decentralized is the key reason to why I moved here.

[-] msw1@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Same, the site is no better than facebook or instagram now.

[-] mesamunefire@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Welcome to Lemmy, hope you have a great time.

Reddit has only one consistently-enforced rule: don't sass the nazis.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Sass the nazis, I say! Sass them to the grave.

It's not so much the guy they're afraid of, they're afraid of what his actions could spur others into repeating. They're afraid of what can be done to them if multiple people follow suit. And y'know what? Maybe that's what we need now. Enough of us fearing them, and them fearing us. We don't need them. They need us. And it's well past the time to give them a reminder of that. Through force, if necessary. Preferably without bloodshed, but at this rate it doesn't look good. They've shown time and again they don't care about how many of us lose our lives to preventable circumstances, so it's time to MAKE them care again.

[-] Strocker89@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 week ago

Remember, they're not threatened by Luigi. They're threatened by the fact that so many people love Luigi and what he stands for.

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

This. He's basically a martyr at this point.

Luigi reminded the people that we have power. We don't need to be subservient to the whims of corporate interests. We can choose to go a different way. He's in jail but millions of people who are inspired by him are roaming free, any of which could become the next Luigi, and wack some CEO who is devoid of empathy or ethics (which is all of them). Anyone could be the perpetrator, anyone could be the target.

It's like a large chunk of the USA is now part of anonymous. Expect us.

(And for anyone who binds anonymous with 4chan, you don't understand anonymous)

Let's be real, all it takes is one person struck by tragedy who no longer has anything to live for choosing to go out this way rather than going quietly. Maybe their kid was killed in the nth school shooting of the year. Maybe they're dying of cancer due to delayed treatment. Maybe they're financially ruined by medical debt. Like you said Luigi reminded people of what is possible, and there's plenty of tragedies that can be correctly attributed to the choices of the rich that happen every day

Kill one rich guy - complete and utter censorship.

Be a rich guy who is a twice impeached convicted felon presidential traitor making decisions resulting in casualties over the thousands - whoah, now, wouldn't want their feelings to be hurt!

State of the world in a nutshell.

Welcome, hope you will enjoy your stay as much as I did. Water is just fine over here

[-] bong_hits_for_jesus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

thank you! free speech for everyone!

[-] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

There's still lots of moderation on Lemmy, but thankfully it's all public. The lemmy.world modlog can be found here https://lemmy.world/modlog.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I havent seen a lot happen if a mod goes off the deep end though. If a system can be broken in a way, its inevitable it will be. This place wil be captured by the same special interests reddit has, I'd bet money on it. But, I'll enjoy it till then.

[-] DioEgizio@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

Luigi Mangione 💚

[-] IdiotsEverywhere@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I left reddit for good yesterday as well. To hell with their censorship.

[-] metaldwarf@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

He "allegedly" killed one of them. So they should feel threatened.

[-] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

No, not because of that guy. Because of us. They are afraid of us. They should be.

[-] dejpivo@lemmings.world 1 points 1 week ago

Not sure. I'm still surprised things are so calm, considering the widespread availability of guns in the population.

[-] taanegl@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well, Trump said that they will push to get the death penalty for drug dealers...

Lock and load, folks.

We're hunting pharmaceutical CEOs.
