Is unn.ua trustworthy? I can’t find much about them online. No wikipedia page or MBFC page.

If I was Ukraine right now, I would want external verification for any intel from US agencies.

[-] modifier@lemmy.ca 10 points 13 hours ago

Ukraine likely adopted that posture well before The Tantrum.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 20 points 17 hours ago

Absolutely brilliant point you have there. Are we just resuming after getting Putin's counter Intel systems in place?

[-] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 17 points 17 hours ago

My thoughts exactly. Tell Ukraine an attack is planned on X and evacuate to Y only to have Russia attack Y. I'm sure Ukraine isn't stupid, and they are on top of it, but this is just a way to point out that "actually we are cooperating with Ukraine" while basically all of our information is compromised, if not at least heavily questionable in origin. So, his supporters get to say Trump is actually assisting Ukraine when people point out that he's a Russian asset. It's so transparent.

For Darwin sake, everybody can read this, right?

First Trump showed Ukraine that he can make Ukraine lose without US support. This brought them to the table again.

Now he aims to show Russia that they can’t win when Ukraine has US support. Trump will support Ukraine with new weapons and even more intel, possibly with permissions to use US weapons in deeper strike missions. This coincides with Trump getting Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire position (that Trump still doesn’t understand Russia will never agree to).

This will go on for 4-6 weeks, then Trump will realise “math is hard, yo” and properly give up on an attempt, blaming Russia, Ukraine and/or the EU.

Then by end of 2025 the recent Trump induced EU panic that caused Europe to react will have created a rapid expansion of European capability and will. Then the US will exit and the war will go on for another couple of years.

You make some good points, but I don't draw the same conclusion. You're ascribing agency and competence to Trump, which we have no evidence for. This is just him jerking Zelenskyy around again.

[-] jarfil@beehaw.org 2 points 1 hour ago

Trump is playing "bully pocker", his goal is to look good to his bases, whoever that might be at the moment. It's the game that has worked for him his whole life, and he's good at it.

What he doesn't realize, is the world stage is an agreements game, based on trust and good faith, where others can join forces and render anyone at the table irrelevant. He's trying to bully everyone into doing what he wants like he was in a single-country sandbox, by playing his strong economy and military "cards" in a carrot+stick teasing approach... without realizing those same "cards" are also based on trust and good faith. Both of which he's been losing at an increasing rate.

I don't think he will stop teasing and gaslighting everyone around, he doesn't know how to do anything else. He will just run the US presidency into the ground, while everyone increasingly ignores him.

I’m ascribing agency and competency to the military planners and to Rubio. Trump wouldn’t know which end of a lollipop to lick.

[-] uhmbah@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 hours ago

Trump wouldn’t know which end of a lollipop to lick.

lmao

Finally, the presidents of both countries agreed to conclude a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible for the development of Ukraine's critical mineral resources to strengthen Ukraine's economy and ensure long-term prosperity and security for Ukraine.

:/

I hope Ukraine isn't forced to give up too much. Not happy to see this part going forward at all.

[-] octopus_ink@slrpnk.net 11 points 17 hours ago

Yeah that effing sucks. I really didn't think they'd bend the knee. I can't blame them, but it still makes me sad.

[-] Powderhorn@beehaw.org 6 points 10 hours ago

Zelenskyy is in the unenviable position of being partially fucked or fully fucked. He also may be playing a longer game, waiting for the EU to fully replace U.S. support. With Germany staying somewhat stable, that's likely doable.

You really only need one industrial powerhouse sending weapons.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 6 points 17 hours ago

We can only hope decent people sabotage as much of it as possible, knowing it isn't even remotely right.

[-] Sibshops@lemm.ee 24 points 18 hours ago

No doubt Trump will celebrate this as a win. Not as a, "I realized that I fucked up."

[-] drtaco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 18 hours ago

Whatever he has to tell himself is fine. The important part is he's learning to realize he fucked up and correcting it. Never thought we'd see that.

[-] JoeyHarrington@lemmy.ca 21 points 17 hours ago

lol learning. This chucklefuck isn't learning anything.

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 17 points 17 hours ago

I suspect he's flailing for anything that will salvage the stock market he's been fucking up. At least until he sees something to make him mad again. That decrepit, senile, orange old bastard has lost like 97% of his object permanence.

[-] drtaco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago

May the stress take its toll on his heart.

[-] Powderhorn@beehaw.org 1 points 10 hours ago

If he had any remaining, he'd know where Melania was.

[-] gon@lemm.ee 16 points 18 hours ago

Well, short-term, this is good. Clearly though, the US can't really be relied upon, considering recent happenings...

[-] DontMakeMoreBabies@lemm.ee 6 points 17 hours ago

GOOD.

Fuck Trump and his bitch ass supporters.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 6 points 17 hours ago

Make it make sense. Are we still going to deport legal citizens?

[-] Powderhorn@beehaw.org 2 points 10 hours ago

How is this relevant to this particular story?

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 1 points 3 hours ago

Because Trump literally was talking about deporting legal Ukraine nationals from the US for no reason and no criminal actions, just because they came from Ukraine and were here legally. Don't come at me when you don't know.

[-] Powderhorn@beehaw.org 2 points 1 hour ago

I'm very much aware. The problem is that's not at all what this story is about, so you're introducing irrelevant info into the thread.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 1 points 22 minutes ago

How is it not related? They both affect and reflect our relations with Ukraine?
