For me the EU should make all hardware manufacturers provide open source drivers with the full range of configuration options available. This is one of the biggest hurdles to moving away from Windows.

Firefox PWAs.. Wish it would be true, but seems to be some custom "Taskbar Tabs" for Windows 11.

As a freelancer, I would really like something to replace UpWork.

Slightly tangential but PeerTube is never going to compete with the Big Red Play Button if people use juvenile domain names like "peertube.wtf"

[-] utopiah@lemmy.ml 22 points 2 weeks ago

It's federated, so one can setup whatever instance they want on whatever domain they want.

If the admin feels ".wtf" is edge, cool. If someone else believe it's NSFW or wouldn't help promote the cause, they can setup another instance on another domain. If the content itself is federated, they might share that link instead.

I just thought it was funny. Don’t know what’s juvenile about “wtf” though. Unless you’re an old fart.

Avatar checks out.

Yeah I know all that, but for whatever reason this dumbass domain seems to be the only one I ever see. Personally I'm all in favor of having a respectable ,canonical domain for newbies and occasional users, but this one is not going to cut it.

Then post some PeerTube videos yourself from whatever PeerTube domain you wanna see lol

[-] Tattorack@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

No, what's stopping me from using peertube and other alternatives is that half the time the video just doesn't want to load.

[-] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 1 points 2 weeks ago

Do you know if it’s any particular instance this happens with?

[-] someacnt@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Same, I wonder how the economics work out.

[-] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 3 points 2 weeks ago

It’s initially not very expensive to run, but as it grows you’ll have to pay more and more for storage.

Videos not loading could be a client issue, low bandwidth from client or server, misconfiguration on the server etc.

A reload usually fixes this, unless the server is actually down.

[-] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 5 points 2 weeks ago

Then use another PeerTube provider, if you don’t like the domain name.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
