The number of children living in poverty across the UK has reached a new record high, according to figures from the Department for Work and Pensions.

Some 4.45 million children were estimated to be in households in relative low income, after housing costs, in the year to March 2024.

This is up from the previous record of 4.33 million in the 12 months to March 2023. It is the highest figure since comparable records for the UK began in 2002-2003.

A household is considered to be in relative poverty if it is below 60 per cent of the median income after housing costs.

Not to worry, Rachel Reeves fantastic plan to decimate the welfare state will take care of this issue - and as an added bonus vastly inflate the value of funeral businesses across the country! Win-win!

Been calling them Red Tories since 2019, this feels perhaps more vindicating of that sentiment than anything yet.

You're kidding but this is actually true. Investing in funeral parlors and similar services is probably a good idea right now; first the excessive dying of the poors, then war. It's going to be a golden age for gravediggers.

I'm not sure that I was, which is even more depressing to realise.

A small number of multi-billionaires and a squad of bootlicking lackeys are responsible for this and for similar things across the planet.

None of the standard ways of doing things are going to solve this problem.

The small number of multi-billionaires must be dealt with.

Reporting absolute numbers is fine but I really prefer precent changes.

Per this article it looks like child poverty grew 3% in one year.

It looks like the UK population grew by roughly 0.3% in the same time.

So child poverty grew nearly 10x faster than population. That seems like a dramatic change.

Wait until the next Labour Government gets in. The Tories usually focus on law and order and other conservative values for their. Labour will restore the balance and ..

Oh .. wait.

Sure we have staggering inequality and soaring poverty but at least we succeeded in replacing that anti semite Corbyn with Keir Starmer, eh?

And who do those 4.5 million low income households vote for now because it's very clear Labour are not watching out for them.

They are eager to find someone to blame and migrants are the usual scapegoats.

The wealthy have no problem with this either.
