The Residence. Easily the best show I've seen in years. Charming, witty, captivating, funny... it hit all the marks.

I’m enjoying it but I’m finding it silly, and not in a fun way. Sometimes it’s fun silly, but often not. There is no jeapordy for any characters. Nobody is really a suspect. You could dip in and out of episodes and be no worse off, which is odd for a whodunnit mystery. It’s witty in parts and engaging and cinematography and acting is good, but it’s a swing and a miss for me. At least they took a swing, though. It’s more original than most US tv, as it’s less linear or procedural.

That's valid, and you're not the first who has told me that it missed the mark. I think it clicked for me because I'm a sucker for anything Shonda Rhimes. It reminded me of 90s classics like Buffy or Xena that blend a serious story with over the top camp.

Haha, I find shondas shows have great concepts and set ups but fail for me on the execution. I haven't tried bridgerton but all the others start very strong with intrigue and jeapordy, then become soapy and drawn out with no character growth. The opposite of Buffy for me, which I also love. Buffy has a ridiculous concept and fabulous writing. The tone is similar, though, I agree with the campiness.

It didn't occur to me until your comment that I've thought similar about her other shows. Ryan Murphy is similar for me. Great concepts, good characters but it devolves into soapy face that's not funny or engaging the longer it goes on. That's true of many shows but I think they lean into commercialism so much that's it's particularly noticable in their shows. I think Murphy tried to address it by doing anthology type shows.
