It can be played single player, but even in single player mode it's still online, presumably so the club of hArDcOrE gAmErS that Musk is trying to be a part of can brag to each other about their leaderboard scores or whatever (and also as DRM)
It can't really be played single player, it just have faux single player mode when you can't trade or party with others but you still need to be online.
Pillars of Eternity is the single player CRPG that has the same abbreviation (that you might be confusing this for)

The boss is slightly harder than that, but it's not like the sekiro tutorial where you're supposed to lose. It has a giant slow attack where he lights up, and you have to move out of the way. It's simple if you're familiar with this kind of game. Musk just is shit.
