Mr Bowman thought about making a curated shopping list more than a decade ago after he found a “vaguely amusing” receipt which read “hair gel, hair gel, newspaper”.

Proper mad lad there.

Speaking of, it's a shame we don't have an r/madlads community here. The one on sh.itjust.works seems to be about corn? It's also dead.

Be the change you want to see - start it.

The one on sh.itjust.works seems to be about corn?

Urm, nope, can't explain that.

The idea of being a mod fills me with anxiety tbh. I also don't have enough material to fuel it. I'm extremely bad at posting.

I've been a mod of casualuk and got one report over the last few months because somebody posted a legitimate link to Chinese social media which two people mistook for spam

That was me, I hit the nuke button cos the weird emojis freaked me out. Glad the cooler heads prevailed

There's nothing much to it and Admins get reports too so we can keep an eye on things.

I also don’t have enough material to fuel it.

Just checked out r/madlads and there looks to be plenty of it out there.

I’m extremely bad at posting.

Practice makes perfect.

Responsibility like that makes me uncomfortable and I'm trying to keep my Lemmy experience a positive distraction rather than a burden. It's why I also mostly stay out of news and politics subs.

Well sure, but I don't necessarily want to be just stealing people's content from Reddit.

Practice makes perfect.

Look I am trying. I've made some posts lately!

...At least I try my best to comment a lot.

No worries, do what you are comfortable with.

I may start a mad lads community one of these days.

r/foundpaper could also work

[-] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t understand why “hair gel, hair gel, newspaper” is funny 🙁

Thank you this didn’t help me at all

Same reason that badge badger snake is funny

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's just something that sparked a train of thought. Probably because it didn't say "2x hair gel" and made a list instead. One which he realized he could curate into something interesting.

Reddit users criticized him for having too much time... Twats.

[-] Trilobyte@feddit.uk 4 points 2 weeks ago

Redditors will always have something to complain about

I would probably be a party pooper when I say I created software for custom receipts at one of my previous jobs. We had a lot of fun with it, printing all kinds of weird stuff. I think I still have some laying around where I bought myself for a few euros.

[-] i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk 4 points 2 weeks ago

I would have used one of the handheld scanners, that way you can see what everything is scanning as as you go round. The ones in Sainsbury's show all the cancelled items though, so you'd still need to be careful. Not sure whether the ones in Asda do.

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

But it's more fun if you order them on the belt though.
