OK, I'm not a Republican (not even an American). Am I missing a subtext to this which would make it more than a funny little story about a child being worried that six is too late in life for a career change?

Yeah, I’d guess this has at least something to do with the current administration purposely wrecking the entire American scientific enterprise. This article wasn’t conceived in a vacuum.

Firefighter is a terrible career, better to change to being a nepotism baby asap. If you see an expensive car rolling down the street jump in front and hope they adopt you or pay for college.
