There is! Right in the middle! "JOIN-LEMMY.org A Better Reddit!" It's been up for 2 days

Although I doubt many would actually join. I mean just look at the page, so many servers to choose from, most would just quit trying to understand it within 10 seconds.

[-] 001100010010@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 1 year ago

But they are giving us traffic! (There's a join-lemmy.org message in the middle of the canvas)

Sadly this message is already being overwritten by bots

Edit: the message about 3rd party apps is also being overwritten

Alright so I'm not an expert so I might not be explaining it correctly.

Federated Network: Multiple instances sharing content, such as Lemmy

Peer to Peer Network: There is no "instances", just peers. Many peers sharing content. Every user is a peer. There is no server costs, because every device connected to the network is acting like a mini-server. It will cost your device some storage space and network bandwith depending on the how the software is designed.

Or do you think Centralized servers are still gonna dominate the future?

I woke up this morning feeling some weird pain in my fingers, I thought ugh, just one of these days isn't it. Then as I scrolled through lemmy, I accidentally bumped my phone against the area where my finger was hurting, and felt a sharp pain. Then I looked. THERE WAS A FUCKING PIECE OF HAIR INSIDE MY SKIN!!! Fucking triggered my OCD and I spend the last 30 minutes getting that hair out, first with my fingernails, then I found tweezers and keep trying to pull it out. It fucking hurt as hell. Finally got it out just around 10 minutes ago, and then spend 5 minutes washing the area just to make sure there's no infection. I fucking hate random pieces of hair AHHHH. I wanna scream.

Not federated ones, but peer-to-peer ones. Sorry if this isn't the right community to ask, but I couldn't find a better one that fits.

I'm just fascinated by the idea of p2p networks, but so far, I haven't found one with actual people using.

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don't look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I'd go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I got my uBlock Origin ready to kill all the ads. That shitty website will not get a cent out of me.

What about you? Do you still use reddit?

I mean, there might be a secret AI technology that is so advanced to the point that it can mimic a real human, make posts and comments that looks like its written by a human and even intentionally doing speling mistakes to simulate human errors. How do we know that such AI hasn't already infiltrated the internet and everything that you see is posted by this AI? If such AI actually exists, it's probably so advanced that it almost never fails barring rare situations where there is an unexpected errrrrrrrrrorrrrrrrrrrr.............

Which of these options are you favorites? Rank up to 5 options:

https://www.rcv123.org/ballot/9T1G8AJZDeRPZiWJwWaKsB

You may also answer and discuss here, but only the votes in the link is counted for the purposes of this survey.

Why am I doing this? Because I missed the polls from [the website that shall not be named], so I wanted to experiment a bit here. And what better way to do polls than the best way! I hereby present you to the Ranked Choice Ballot! Ta-da! (Please go vote, I spent a lot of time on this)

Edit: If you don't want to vote, here are the results from all the votes so far:

So basically what I'm asking is, can the encryption keys be recovered when you reset your phone? Also, is there any difference between using the settings menu to wipe, using remote wipe, and using the bootloader wipe?

Btw, I accidentally posted to the main android community again, I already deleted it but it didn't federate. Apologies for making you mods doing more work.

Data as in information (photos, contacts, messages, etc...), not your mobile internet allowance.

I personally just have photos and a few phone numbers that I can remember, probably around 10-15 GB including a few 4K videos. I have like maybe 20 GB of apps but they are re-downloadable so it doesn't really count for me. As for PC, I rarely use computers these days, too tired and I'd rather lie down and stare at my phone instead, so I'm not even gonna count my PC data. How much data do you have and whats your total combined storage of all your drives?

Edit: Damn, some people got so much stuff! I personally am relying on faith that the internet and civilization doesn't collapse so I download stuff whenever I want to watch them and delete them when I'm done with them. Y'all got doomsday bunkers planned out! 😆

I mean, exactly how invasive are default operating systems? (Like Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Android, iOS) Do they log your keystrokes, log passwords, capture screen, upload your photos, videos, or audio? (Assuming you aren't a target of government) Is it even possible for the average person who doesn't feel comfortable messing with installing operating systems to have any privacy?

This high quality surprised pikachu image is making the meme weird. I was so used to seeing memes with low res images. This is so odd for me.
