Some people think they have to "win" conversations and will use anything against you, some people are just gaslighty, manipulative douches and i try to avoid as much interaction as possible with either of these groups. Nothing good can come off it.
I've heard repeatedly, from different autists, how they explained this to teachers for pschology, pedagogy etc. and the teachers listened, nodded along and then immediately went on to keep using person first language.
dude get in the fucking robot the world is ending
He's a child suffering from PTBS and depression. He barely has the spoons to do anything but lie flat on the floor, yet he is supposed to save the fucking world. ofc he struggles under that weight, that's the normal and expectable reaction in that context and it's honestly surprising that given the enormity of what is asked of him, he somehow manages to pull through. Which he does. He just (very realistically) suffers like a dog while doing it instead of being some dumbass superhero fantasy who always keeps his toothpaste smile in spite of seeing everything he knows being flattened under an apocalyptic onslaught.
The show is a callout of a toxic culture that demands duty and functionality at all times, no matter if the person in question is even remotely capable of it. I don't know if somebody without a history of depression, ADHD or other issues that can actively destroy your ability to perform even the most trivial everyday tasks is capable of understanding this, but it's actually ableist af to expect a boy like him to get reliably retraumatized over and over again without ever complaining about hand-to-hand combat against giant cosmic horrors that need to be drawn with a dwarved aircraft carrier group next to them to demonstrate their mind-rending scale . Shinji acts heroically because he almost always does what is needed, but he doesn't perform the aesthetics of what we think heroism is supposed to look like, he is visibly vulnerable and struggling instead of bottling up his pain and hanging in there for the job and because the show dares to take the needed time to appropriately portray that fight with himself, this has led to several generations of reactionary incels getting mad at him.
Not calling you a reactionary incel, mind you. I understand how you arrive at your impression, i had the same when i watched the show for the first time when i saw it on nighttime TV back in the late 90s and had only the faintest glimpse of what severe executive dysfunction looks like. But that this view is so widespread is a sign of the ableism and toxic masculinity we've all internalized to some degree.
-
robust: gutting all social safety systems and public education
-
sustainable: making sure there's a solid trickle-up of wealth that used to belong to the public
-
inclusive: in one way or the other, this will fuck over anybody who isn't at least a US$ millionaire
It gets better: The nazis in question (there are several other charges against antifascists from all over Europe) got owned during the March of Honor, a yearly nazi rally in Budapest where these losers celebrate a failed attempt to breach the siege of the city by the Red Army. Imagine getting decked while commemorating a historic nazi L.
Only joined the settlers ten years ago and already engages in their tradition of desecrating native places of worship, he's really going for the model minority angle.
Posadists are trots, this just gets ignored in the dolphin memes. Guy couldn't even write about UFOs without calling the USSR a deformed worker state.
If this was real the name would include an X.
show your support for losing a war that Amerika literally tried to win by genociding their way to a better KDR and tell everybody you're a nepo baby who got to hang out at the National Guard while all the boys you graduated HS with got owned at Dien Bien Phu
worth mentioning scumfuck up there only added that bit after getting criticized for their bigotry. homophobes are all magically harvey milk's favorite nephew the instant someone calls them out.
Yeah that's common, i see that a lot both online and irl and they always mean somebody like that one gay dude in their QAnon chat group who dates muslim men exclusively while also wanting to genocide them.
As a trans person stuck in a highly transmed, gatekeepy and pathologizing healthcare system, i've been through my share of psychotherapists (not really, i will have to go through at least two more ffs) and Freudians are the fucking worst. I mean, that's not entirely correct, Jungians appear to be the same but nazi and i'm glad i never had a run-in with one of those freaks, but jfc do Freudians make my skin crawl. And when i ask around in local trans groups, hey, what's your experience with this and that guy, yeah, the psychoanalytically oriented ones aren't the ones any of us trust.
I get it, he's got some nice ideas when he's not doing his straight ass pulls and blatant mysogyny, he's also an excellent prose writer and the charm of his Vienesse German even carries over into the English translations, i can give him credit for a lot of things. A lot of things outside of psychology. Yes, he was right about the constructedness of social norms, but you do not need Freud for that, any psychologist with the tiniest bit of background in leftist acedemia understands that part already, it's been kind of at the center of all humanities for the last decades. Psychology doesn't need more Freud, it needs more intersectional anticapitalism to understand that some people just have entirely different experiences than those within the normative framework that defines the illusion of normalcy in our system. And i know a psychologist who does that, and she's got nothing to do with Freud, she just does the usual evidence-based cognitive behavorial therapy slop, but she's read enough feminist theory and queer theory and anti-racist theory to understand where her biases lie and how to treat people correctly when their very existence is at odds with how society is "supposed" to work, and i've never seen anything like that from a Freudian, even though there's ofc Freudian leftists. But even those appear to be permanently stuck with overvaluing and centering the experience and the intellectual idiosyncrasies of a single cishet dude that are just super fucking misleading about how the human mind works, that perpetuate a very lopsided and hierarchical doctor-patient relation and that mostly work on making the wildest assumptions about your patients and always one-upping and controlling them.
Sure. A lot of the anti-trans legislation specifically targets minors by banning puberty blockers and HRT for people under 18, forcing students to use the bathroom matching their AGAB in schools, forcing teachers to out trans students to their parents etc. The US in particular has a sizeable conversion "therapy" industry that largely targets minors. Trans kids are also much more at the mercy of their parents supporting them in their social and / or medical transition. If you live alone or with your parents makes a massive difference in your questioning phase. It's a lot harder to figure yourself out when putting on makeup and a skirt (or a binder and a packer when you're transmasc) means you can't leave your room like that because then your parents may see you. Buying these items in the first place may be impossible for many teens, at least without their parents noticing. An adult can usually go no contact with their transphobic parents without being materially ruined by it. A trans kid going no contact usually means they end up homeless. And on top of that, these kids are already aware of being trans at the precise point in their life when their body, if untreated, is changing in drastic ways that cause them massive dysphoria. If they do not have access to blockers or HRT, they consciously have to go through the wrong puberty and see what that does to their body. The pressure on trans kids is just much higher than the pressure on trans adults. Trans youth are an extremely vulnerable population, they just lack a lot of the ressources that people transitioning at a later age have while being in a much more precarious social and psychological situation. Being a teenager is hard enough as it is, but being a trans teenager with an unsupportive home and school environment leaves you little to no room to escape.
And the numbers from that stufy reflect that. The 72% increase in suicides is specifically for people aged 13-17. It is nowhere near that high in any other age group. And that's due to the factors outlined above. These laws and this social climate disproportionally kill children.
