I always thought anonymous voting was preferable, or at least non-public. I don't want "why did you downvote me bro!?"-arguments to occur, and I don't want to know who approves of my comments or not. I think thinking of votes as an amorphous blob representing general public opinion on Lemmy is preferable to getting into the weeds of who exactly likes your posts and comments.

We could also have "karma" on Lemmy, but while technically tracked the environment is better off without it being public in my opinion. I view voting records similarly.

If botting becomes enough of an issue that regular users need to report vote manipulation bots I'll be fine with conceding my stance.

I was just going to write "China's gonna China", but then I remember this particular studio goes a little further than that:

[...] Some things are just for men, their depression, their anger, their pain...".

The studio is also said to have shared job recruitment posters that boasted "friends with benefits" as a job perk. Another was reported to have read, "Fatties should f*ck off."

Charming.

He said the election feels tight in this state and added that his union and a close friend are trying to convince him to vote for Harris and other Democrats, but he has voted for Trump since 2016.

Bridy called Trump a “working class guy like us.” Trump is a billionaire who built his fortune in real estate.

“He’s a fighter,” Bridy said. “I’d like to see the closed borders. He doesn’t mess around. He goes at it right away and takes care of business the way it should be.”

The brain washing that's been done to these people is truly something else.

Good on NPR and the effort to fact check that dumpster fire must have been exhausting, but the damage is already done. No would-be Trump voter is going to read this and change their mind on anything. The only thing that could make a difference is live fact checking and calling Trump out as he makes the statements.

The best way to beat a fascist is to make fun of them. Biden droning on about the threat of Trump plays into his hands - it makes him look strong and scary. The way to get at him is making him look small and silly.

Kamala's campaign seem to have the right idea so far. Let's hope she's well-coached for the debate, because it's going to be hugely important.

I wonder if Trump is running into an unexpected problem (in addition to all his other problems): habituation. When he first entered politics he had novelty value on his side. Nobody had ever behaved like he did in a presidential race. His mannerisms were unique and new, and even us who detest him found him entertaining - at least to some extent.

But he's been running this act for a decade now. Everyone's seen it, and people aren't asking for encores anymore. Fewer and fewer people are even showing up in the first place. He's still got his cult behind him, but I think even there the fervour has diminished. He needs new material, but does he still have enough of his wits about him to make up some?

There is a separate timeline out there where Bernie beat Trump in 2016 and we didn't have to go through any of this shit. I hope the me in that timeline realizes how lucky he is.

It's fascinating how much stronger her position feels now compared to 4 years ago. Seeming young and vigorous in comparison to Biden does her wonders. She also has the benefit of still being able to take credit for the largely successful Biden/Harris term while being immune to the age rhetoric. Going to be very interesting how this plays out.
