I don’t think it’s politically useful to be clamping down on “leftism.” Allowing liberals to call themselves that dilutes actual leftist movements, causing people to question which side believes in what, and capturing more voters who are unable to distinguish the two. Making it distinguishable will make it easier for people to choose sides, even if they’re falsely presented.
