I’m curious how those countries view their students and how the students view their role in wider society. Here in the US, the general population is apathetic, sympathetic exclusively to their children who are in college, or hostile towards the students for being “spoiled” or “marxists.” And many students I know in STEM just see college as a 4 year stepping point to join Lockheed, so they have no interest in rocking the boat
