That's absolutely unbelievable to me. I block ads on everything. I just can't handle it. For the few ad-based services that I pay for, I mute it for every commercial. Seriously, I just can't handle it.

But... clearly tons and tons and tons and tons and tons of people do watch them... which makes a massively lucrative business. I'll just never understand it.

When I need something, I look it up and get it. If i don't need something, I don't want to hear about it in any way, shape, or form.

Ugh.

10 billion. 😖

The Onion singularity is happening in my lifetime!

Is there a way to enable logs outputs? I'm getting pretty regular timeout errors on my primary instance of choice. I'd really like to know more details about what's going on.

EDIT: I find the article interesting, but not in the good sense. I'm glad to know, but it only leaves me feeling achy.

I also find the down votes for this post interesting. The source is trustworthy and accurately reflects the US American populace. Perhaps the negative votes simply reflect how many, including myself, feel about this news in general.

This is insane. When exactly is a permissible age for kids to be walking about on their own?

Things are absolutely different today than they were when I was a kid. My parents never had any idea where I was. They simply said "be home by dinner" and I was home by dinner. Did we get into trouble? Absolutely. But that's part of being kids.

Fast forward to today. My partner and I don't see eye to eye on this because of how things feel so unsafe now. I know how valuable that independence was for me though, so I tend towards permissiveness.

The thing is, kids still walk to school in all kinds of localities. I remember walking to school on a much busier road than the one described in this article. The worst I ever encountered was teenagers throwing eggs once. (Haha. They missed.) And yeah, drivers may hit you. I get it. The government can help mitigate that with better planning and sidewalks, if they actually cared.

But a tracking app too!? Where the government can know my kids location?! That presumes my children even have a phone with a mobile plan, which is a privilege the government isn't paying for. And if they did, @#$& you government! Seriously. WTF?!

I'm both flabbergasted and not. Because, these days, I pretty much only expect fuckery. I wish that weren't the case. I often hope it isn't. And I love being surprised when it's not the case. But 🤬!

These kinds of ads are the ones that drive people to ad blockers.

If advertisers only understood that many of us are okay with limited, non-intrusive advertisements. This kind of garbage only guarantees that I will never ever ever use that product or service, oftentimes out of spite.

The Biden administration has warned Israel that it must increase the amount of humanitarian aid it is allowing into Gaza within the next 30 days or it could risk

The Biden administration is doing the best they can possibly do. /s

Why is this number so drastically higher than other numbers I've seen? I thought it was in the 40 thousands?

(Not like that's any better. Genocide is genocide. I'm just a bit perturbed by how different the number is then when I last heard.)

UPDATE: Further along in the linked document it clarified...

"In total it is likely that 62,413 people have died of starvation and its compilations in Gaza from October 7, 2023 to September 30, 2024. Most of these will have been young children."

That figure is an addition to the 42,000 that have died from the violence.

Holy hell... 😭

A reverse image search revealed to me that there are a hell of a lot of copies of this image around the internet, but I can't seem to find any papers that provide background. I'm going to have to look again later, but if there's any other internet sleuths out there interested in figuring out the origins of these photos with reputable explainers, I would love to know more about this.

I'm always afraid of things like this that seem to confirm my biases without associated information to back it...

Who is this guy and how serious should we take this information? This is by far the highest number I've seen for Trump so far.

Is there any way to install and use the Gemini App without the Google App and forced association of the account with my Android phone?

I have a specific Google account just for Gemini, but I neither use the Google app nor desire for my phone to maintain this alt google account as one of the phone associates accounts. I think many folks would prefer login stay within the app itself.

Another positive step in the right direction for an organization rife with brokenness. There's a lot I don't like about the organization, but this is something a love--a scouting organization open to young women and the lgbtq community. The next step is being inclusive of nonreligious agnostic and atheist youth and leaders. As well as ending the cultural appropriation of Native American peoples.

May this organization continue to build up youth, never allow further violence against youth, and make amends for all the wrongs. There's a lot of good that comes out of organizations like this and I won't discount it even though it's riddled with a dark history.

HeliBoard with Swipe + FUTO have made replacing gboard possible for me. I feel like it's been a 90% replacement, a far greater degree than some of the decent keyboards currently available. I regularly use but swipe and speech to text in two languages. I'm really really happy and grateful for these tools. 💜

Could anyone recommend a OnePlus 11 telephoto lens attachment? My searches are coming up dry so far.

Photo Description

Top Left: Tree unbalanced. Left side producing little. Right side producing well.

Top Right: Shown from opposite side. Full limbs visible without flowering.

Bottom left: Close up of the left side of the tree. Several branches not flowering down full length.

Bottom right: Closer view of the graft and up.

Please do ask for any more clarifying photos if you think it would help.

Questions:

  • The tree just started blooming this week. Is it too late to start pruning or should I wait until Autumn?

  • Pruning the tree is going to make it even more lopsided than it already is. Would you all recommend trimming back the healthy branches so it's not so heavy on one side?

  • This website gives the advice below. Any thoughts otherwise?

Thank you all so much!

How to Prune a Weeping Cherry Tree

The different types of weeping cherries can grow to between eight and 40 feet tall. Proper pruning keeps these trees looking beautiful and can prevent the development and spread of diseases. Prune while the tree is dormant (no flowers or leaves on the branches) in early spring or late fall. Take the following steps once a year with bypass pruning shears or a pole pruner.

  • Cut back any branches that contact the ground until they’re at least six inches off the ground.
  • Remove branches that are rubbing against each other.
  • Trim back branches that are closer than two inches apart.
  • Remove dead branches.
  • Remove stems or branches growing out of the trunk or around the base of the tree (a.k.a. suckers).
  • Trim back the tips of the branches around the perimeter of the canopy until it’s a balanced, uniform shape.
  • Remove branches that are growing straight up on grafted cherry trees because they will continue to grow upward instead of weeping down.
  • Thin out the mangled cluster of branches that often develops near the base of the canopy of grafted trees.
  • Remove diseased branches as soon as they’re discovered, regardless of the time of year. Sterilize the blade of your cutting tool in between cuts to prevent disease spread.

For goodness' sake, do something about it then. Stop repeating these same words over and over and over, year after year after year.

84

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action in the two years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.

"A U.S. intelligence report declassified in mid-December 2023 estimated that 315,000 Russian troops had been killed or wounded in Ukraine. If accurate, the figure would represent 87% of the roughly 360,000 troops Russia had before the war, according to the report."

———

I will never feel as though I fit in this world, a place where the so-called leaders of humanity callously throw away the lives of their own people--slaughtering the innocent along the way--in their own broken, vileness.

There is no goodness from such death.

We have the ability, today, to be so much more than we have ever been. We can realize the greatest of human potential. Yet we continue to choose death.

Had I only been born in a later age where I could spend my one life in an era that is extraordinarily glorious. Presuming of course that our species would survive itself to such a time.
