I might just be tired but I'm having a hard time understanding what you're asking.
Just switched after seeing how much of my Steam library I could play on my Deck. Just have to switch back for BF5 sometimes and I don't miss Windows at all. Very nice experience.
As a European I'm so gratefull people didn't "go for talks" on that day they stormed the beaches.. sometimes you have to actually fight for your ideals and not water them down every time they are opposed..
So you think that what you have described above is something all Windows 10 users deal with?
For all it's shortcomings this sounds more of something on your end and also something quirky that you will any OS really..
In this context an unsupported cpu would be an i7 7700K for example. Hardly e-waste and can perform quite well..
That lasagna is DONE..
Kinda disagree here, my parents also won't install Windows or any other OS by themselves. An average person isn't going to switch to an alternate OS. Because they do not care.
An average person however IS going to want that specific Windows only mail client, legacy applications that don't run on Linux or use their bank website that isn't supported by Linux.
This is a one way ticket to making yourself the sole family sysadmin.
IT Crowd for me
It's not about performance but compatibility. Such as certain anti-cheat software in online games.
Sorry but I hate this argument. Most people use a phone for that anyway. And my 70 year old mom is going to ask my dad and if he can't fix the problem someone else and guess what. They never worked with Linux. I can tell you that a lot of the buttons and controls have looked the same in Windows for way too long. Admittedly from Windows 10/11 this gets worse.
Also they will need software from the local photo place, some shit old legacy app that they refuse to let go, banking software that isn't Linux compatible.. it's never "just browsing" from my experience and it's not worth the hassle. Especially if I'm cornering myself by becoming the only 24/7 on-call admin for my family.
I switched to Linux myself but can we please stop lying about Linux being a drop-in replacement? There is enough sofware that does not work.
