Thierry’s district ... is not a swing district. ... Previously, Thierry had beaten a Libertarian candidate 87%-13%, with no Republican running in the race.

In case anyone thought this might have been a tactical ploy by a dem in a heavily republican area, it was not. Just a crazy person shooting themself in the foot with their own cruel thoughts.

A lot of the larger abandoned magazines are just spam pools now. I don't see their posts in my feed, but I don't like that the two sidesbars of random posts and threads are now just spam advertising sidebars. I triedblocking the magazines, but doesn't that prevent the posts from showing in those sidebars.

Now don't get me wrong, I love it when m/infosec advertises voodoo curses and revenge spells, but after the first time the joke wears thin, you know?

Imagine going through the soul crushing hell of being a committed and earnest election worker in a failing 21st century democracy and then the clouds part and in one shining moment you can tell boris you have no idea who he is, but he'll need ID.

Like seriously consider it. Do you say "on your bike son"? Can you resist flipping him off? The joy he gave that one person might be the single act of good in johnson's entire life.

calling antisemitism “a vile and disgusting form of bigotry that has done unspeakable harm to many millions of people”.

“But, please, do not insult the intelligence of the American people by attempting to distract us from the immoral and illegal war policies of your extremist and racist government. Do not use antisemitism to deflect attention from the criminal indictment you are facing in the Israeli courts. It is not antisemitic to hold you accountable for your actions,”

I love all the ritualized behaviour, secret meanings and unexpected taboos - standing up when someone of higher status stands, elaborate rules for serving and eating, tapping the table to thank the server, never refuse a toast from a superior, stuff like that.

Whether it's about meals or anything else, I'd love to hear about any uncommon politeness standard or similar social behaviour that goes on in your location, culture or restaurant!

You know shit's getting electorally relevant when the US starts treating refugees with a hint of basic human dignity.

Irish solidarity with the Palestinian cause has been massive for decades.

That's almost certainly what the Israeli player was referring to with this malicious mischaracterization:

It’s known that they are quite antisemitic and it’s no secret, and maybe that’s why a strong game is expected

Something about being brutalized and treated as second class citizens in your own home by a militarily dominant power seems to generate empathy for the plight of Palestinians.

I'm sure he did make games worse, but he also covered up for rapists and threatened to kill employees which seems maybe more headline worthy to me.

Interpret improvements as you like. For me it's any large scale reforms or legislative packages designed to improve the country for all or see to the material interests of the majority without overly benefiting the elite.

Any big consumer protection, environmental, infrastructure, or other legislation from Clinton onwards that materially improved the lives of all?

Obamacare and the medicaid expansion comes to my mind. It has obviously improved people's lives but considering how broken the healthcare system remains, and that it was written by the insurance industry to undermine single-payer, it seems to me a mitigated win at best.

Gay marriage and marijuana legalisation but that was the courts and the states although i'm sure the federal government could've stood in the way had they chosen to.

I've only live here since the 2010s so that's all I can think of.

Imagine how damning their behavior must be that they paid half a billion to cover it up. 10,000 people in the US could live comfortably for a year on this single hush money payment.

People are taking this as a dig on China, but it's a tale of how fragile nationalists are the world over. This is a level of dumb on par with freedom fries.

In case you were wondering how an obviously insane person comes to be that rich, it's from stealing your data.

Apparently he was the founder and chief data scientist at SMA Communications. From their website:

SMA Communications owns data on over 247 million consumers and over 49 million business contacts. We also have over 179 million registered Voters, 165 million automobile owners, Social media connections and more.

I just hope the courts will consider what's best for Techno Mechanicus.

Alas, it does not.

企鵝 is penguin. By itself, 企 means to stand on tiptoes, or to expect something. It's also the first character in 企業, business. Sometimes business is abbreviated as just 企.

But "commitment" in English doesn't literally mean 'commercial glove noun' just because 'com' can be short for commercial, and mit means glove.

We need to see some pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around... There's been a systemic change where the employees feel that the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around.

So said every vicious aristocrat throughout history.

Whether owner of slaves, serfs or workers - elites always believe it's their right to inflict harm on others.

Eat the rich, put us out of their misery.
