It's one of the differences between the Isekai and the Portal Fantasy. Sure sometimes the protagonist ends up staying, but the portal is in principle always there. Think Outlander where at this point they're popping back to the present for toilet breaks.

That's true, but on the other hand there's a fine line between not falling into ultra-ism and being a tailist. You have to stick to your guns on, say, women rights, but be where the people are, arguing and exhorting them to consciousness, rather than just handing down commands from on high.
