They just hate the fact that there's a group of foreigners enjoy their free time.

Start to play soccer, you'll see how their brain will short circuit because they can't ban their favorite sport

Isn't apple doing the same?

Designed to fill the 5gb immediately so you're going to buy more cloud space immediately

When I had an iPhone, there was an annoying red dot on the settings icon "warning, you didn't enable cloud backups for photos", and if you enabled it become an annoying red dot "warning you ran out of iCloud space"

so:

  • car dealers don't want to sell EVs, you need to push them otherwise they'll try to sell an ICE model
  • car makers have collectively decided that EV = luxury vehicle that must be sold at least for 45k
  • car makers don't really want to make EVs - when the government they introduce a tax subsidy, they increase the price by that exact amount (VW Up for example, they decided that it could be never to sold 5k over the ICE model - when the government increased the subsidy, VW increased the price, and when the subsidy rose to 13k they discontinued the model as it would cannibalize sales of other models)
  • charge point operators just want to get the european funds to install chargers, but then they're going to neglect any kind of maintenance, to the point that for enelx fast chargers it's the norm to find them broken or out of service and the exception when they work as intended.
  • charge point operators also don't really want to sell electricity, so they set a 2000% markup. Paying electricity for 1 euro per kwh it's like paying gas at 3 euro per liter
  • charge point operators have collectively decided that in order to pay for the charge, customers must use the most user-unfriendly process as possible. Can't just accept credit card at the POS with lower fees, no, must register on the proprietary app, search for the charger on the map that almost always requires google play services, find it, guess which of the 8 pins on the map is the right one, hope that unlocks, and so on.

it's almost a miracle that you can see people driving an EV in italy

naming is essential

if you make and kill four separate apps all called variations around "google pay" there's a tiny chance people gets confused

If only they didn't intentionally give up compatibility with 250 million PCs by introducing artificial CPU requirements, then adoption rate would be higher...

But blackrock and vanguard (they control ~15% of Microsoft, Intel, AMD) really needed to increase their profits by selling more CPUs...

Also it didn't help that until October 2023 the taskbar was completely broken and unusable, people like me forbid the installation of the os in the company for that reason alone

Main problem with Google is their obsession with telemetry.

"Only 3% of our users use this feature, kill it".

Assholes, you have billions of users, a small percentage is still millions. Not to mention that power users always disable/block telemetry...

Hi, suddenly my pixel 3 can't see any networks. It seems such a strange problem. Because it's a test phone, i wiped it to default, no fix.

Flashed android 9. The same. (with flash.android.com, which also refreshes the radio firmware)

Flashed android 11. No change.

Went back to android 12. No change

Some interesting fact: if i share something with "nearby share", the window is frozen and nothing appears, except a white dialog with no text

Has it happened to anyone that a phone wifi suddenly dies?

Something that i could do with root, to restart the modem or something like that?

This is ridiculous, and really a bad news for everyone as there's no way to talk with an human

Original source is unfortunately on reddit, which I can't link

Until a decade ago I was one of those blind Apple users that was using iTunes as the only way to organize my music.

Now I've liberated my collection using navidrome and/or direct syncing the whole library via syncthing.

Today I noticed that I have about 20 m4p files that can't be played with anything. Seems like one day I was drunk and I purchased an album on iTunes, so I guess it's DRM.

There's a way to convert those files to something with more freedom?

I don't have iTunes but in some box in my garage I have a 15 years old iMac with some ancient os version that can't be updated because Apple's marketing team said I should buy a newer one

In a video on a different channel (not from Linus media group) a LTT employee criticized other YouTubers like gamers Nexus saying they're not as thorough as them, so gamers Nexus made a 40 minutes video (not monetized, Linus wouldn't have done that) with a compilation of some of the biggest errors LTT made in the last year.

Mostly the issues that were pointed out is that

  1. After being sent a prototype of a water-cooling block that will be on sale in November 2023, he didn't follow the instructions and attempted to install it on a wrong GPU, and that meant there would be a 1 mm gap between the die and the block and wouldn't work at all. The conclusion of that video was that it was a shitty product and nobody should buy it. For a start-up with 2 people is a death sentence. Later in his hours long wan show (that I never see because too long) he doubles down saying "why I should spend $500 in salaries to test it with the right equipment, it's a shitty product and nobody should buy it". The sample was not returned even if it was requested back and instead they sold it at an auction

  2. For a mouse review they said it had terrible gliding and it was awful, but they didn't RTFM and didn't remove a protective film on the bottom (but IMHO it should arrive to the customer without protective films)

  3. Various instances of the hosts that says something but then it's corrected by just an asterisk on the screen

  4. Various instances of clearly wrong tests (coolers that suddenly in a single test perform significantly worse than the average, newer GPU models that run much faster than the average)

And he didn't point another problem with a video published a few hours earlier: LTT reviewed a virus removal Stick and the conclusion was that even if the ads are misleading and the website is scammy, the product itself isn't that bad. But he tested on a diy computer. Any prebuilt computer released in the last two years has secureboot and automatic bitlocker encryption with keys in the Microsoft account, meaning that this antivirus removal USB drive wouldn't even boot, and if it could, it couldn't access any file on the computer

If you don't pay a subscription you can't see the history of use, it's limited to the latest 5 events. When I bought the ten devices (=I paid 150 euro for the hardware), it was 100 events

Sorry, another news from this asshole, but this is too much assholery to don't be shared

Despite him being a shitty boss that fired employees that criticized him on twitter, he promised an "unlimited" legal defense fund to fight against employers that fired employees because of something they wrote on Twitter.

Under his tweet a lot of "verified" (=right wing) accounts plauded this and asked to fight employers who fired employees for having written something homophobic

I hate Google photos because I feel it's too invasive with that cloud backup that you never really know if a photo is online or on device, so I disabled it in my Google Pixel.

Now Google camera is broken, says it can't show previews until I enable Google photos again.

Is there any workaround? Tried with many other galleries, but seems it's hard coded to Google photos...

Also, it seems fishy that 12 days and 80k views later the video doesn't have a single comment

I tried to delete and recreate the container, but there's still this insane power consumption.

For comparison, cloudflared doing a tunnel to hundreds of users takes 0.06% of CPU time on the same server

For the vast majority of docker images, the documentation only mention a super long and hard to understand "docker run" one liner.

Why nobody is placing an example docker-compose.yml in their documentation? It's so tidy and easy to understand, also much easier to run in the future, just set and forget.

If every image had an yml to just copy, I could get it running in a few seconds, instead I have to decode the line to become an yml

I want to know if it's just me that I'm out of touch and should use "docker run" or it's just that an "one liner" looks much tidier in the docs. Like to say "hey just copy and paste this line to run the container. You don't understand what it does? Who cares"

The worst are the ones that are piping directly from curl to "sudo bash"...
