Fedora has gotten much more stable and reliable in the past decade. 15+ years ago it was generally regarded as nice but unstable. I'd say nowadays for a moderately technical user it offers a better experience overall than Ubuntu or Mint. There are still unfortunately some pitfalls for new users (media codecs come to mind). In fact, the only issues i've had in most of those 10 years have been related to GNOME plugins or the Plasma 6 transition, problems that also occured on Ubuntu.

I have 2 computers: one running Ubuntu, one Fedora. This has been my setup for over a decade. I have lately been finding Ubuntu more and more cumbersome to use, with less of the "just works" experience i remember having in the past. Perhaps the focus on cloud computing has caused the desktop to languish a bit.

I would like to try Pop!_OS, but i haven't had a free evening for a while to do a backup and reinstall on one of my computers. It's also been a while since i used Mint, so my impression could be out of date.

The nice thing about Linux overall (compared to macOS and Windows) is that each update generally improves on the experience. On commercial platforms the experience gets worse as often as it gets better, usually both at the same time. GNOME and Plasma are both overall much better than they were a decade ago (despite a few regressions) while macOS and Windows are both worse in general.

Motorcycles get much better mileage than gas cars. Most cars on the road carry only a single person during Rush Hour. Motorcycles create much less pollution and traffic in those situations. A typical motorcycle tends to get double the fuel economy of a typical gas car. A gas car only comes out ahead if you carpool with more than 2 people, which almost nobody does.

As a pedestrian, getting hit by a motorcycle going 30 km/h is much is much less lethal than being hit by a car going 30 km/h. the amount of kinetic energy is a fraction of that of a car

At least in my area, motorcyclists are on average safer drivers than BMWs or Teslas, probably even safer than average. At least they bother to signal most of the time.

You have some points but some of your arguments are totally untrue.

Mfers will use their phone daily on the side of the pool but the second you toss it in the deep end it's a crime against humanity

Found Brendan Eich's sockpuppet :)

A conservative can't be a Christian, and vice versa. Jesus was absolutely clear: He cares as much about the sex of who you sleep with as He does about the fabric of your underwear. Hatred is never justified.

Homophobia is a plenty good reason not to use a browser. Eich is an unscrupulous person at best, and his name leaves a stink on any project he is involved with. Unsurprising that Brave has decided to embrace the crypto fad and is moving towards becoming an ad platform.

Brave is a scammy project founded by a scummy person. I'm not sure FOSS development can fix that as long as he is in charge.

What do you use iTunes for? That stood out to me.

Also Chrome works fine on Linux, though Firefox is a better browser even on Windows.

Victorian recipies use cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, mace, and long pepper pretty often.

I think surviving recipes are almost all upper-class food, so regular people maybe used more salt and herbs than actual spices.

Nothing new here. E2E is only available in one on one chats and is disabled by default.

At least Telegram has an open-source client. Very few messaging platforms can say that, and fewer have a decent UX.

It's not perfect, but it's got the best combination of features and multi-platform availability by quite a bit. None of the other messaging apps support all of my devices except Matrix, and Matrix doesn't have stickers

Couldn't finish it: too much whining, not enough substance.

I haven't tried hyprland yet but if this is the guy developing it than maybe I'm good.

Cosmic seems promising. Best of luck to system76, happy to see an alternative opinionated desktop getting some momentum.

Somebody has never used opensuse. Zypper is an amazing package manager, one of the best on any distro.

It can handle flatpacks, native packages, and packages from the opensuse build system, keeping everything updated and organized.

Pacman is very basic by comparison, and a lot slower too in my experience.

Nice job! If you can get the nvidia driver installed properly, any distro should work in theory.

On Ubuntu: https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/nvidia-drivers-installation

On Fedora: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht511074-enabling-nvidia-proprietary-drivers-on-fedora-linux

On Pop!_OS it should be already installed by default

I've been hearing good things about Nobara, Ill have to try it out!

I don't hate systemd. However:

Units and service files are confusing, and the documentation could be a lot better.

That said, when systemd came out the traditional init stack was largely abandoned. Thanks to systemd (and the hatred of it) there are now a couple of traditional-style init systems in active development.
