Tipping culture is fucked.

Tips shouldn't be allowed to be deducted from wages, and minimum wage needs to be way higher. If this puts some places out of business then good, those places were exploiting their staff, and they'll be replaced. Prices will go up, but they won't go up more than how much it cost before with tip included.

But keep the appearance of a mall.
That way when we all have Alzheimer's from micro plastics, we can wander around it and feel young

So lukewarm means "warm warm", except the repetition is basically the opposite of palilogia 🤣

I'm unlikely to listen to the whole album. To be honest I'm unlikely to listen to any of it.

With that in mind, care to explain this joke that clearly wasn't aimed at me?

Because the right doesn't care that trump lied, and the left does care that Biden can't speak.

And the right wing media wants to do is suppress the left wing voters, and the left wing media knows that people are exhausted after 8 years talking about Trump lying so the Biden thing is better for viewership

I agree it's safe but idk it's the best we currently have, I think that probably depends on locale.

Solar and wind (and maybe tidal?), with pumped hydro energy storage is probably cheaper, safer, and cleaner... But it requires access to a fair bit more water than a nuclear plant requires, at least initially.

But nuclear is still far better than using fossil fuels for baseline demand.

Fun fact, the vast majority of the mass of a plant is extracted from the CO2 in the air, not from matter in the ground.

Trees mainly appear out of thin air

sort of

But I do think there is a legitimate ACAB angle here, to slice it by power dynamics instead: All political leaders are bastards.

It's not just one nation vs another, it's also civilians vs the political elite. So while I agree it's wrong to say "both sides are equally to blame", there are other useful perspectives. I think.

Lemmy / Mastodon is the social network. To show that your server is part of that social network, they include it in the name

I think you mean "most notably by the French" 😌

I mean, there is an ocean between doing nothing that your childhood friend died, and asking to be cremated in the same urn as the person you shared your bed with.

I grant that you're right in that we shouldn't project modern western ideas of sexual identity onto other cultures, but typically I see this conversation come up as a reaction or rebuttal to the assertion that this kind of behavior has no historical precedent.

The number of people on here who seem to think that an analog instrument cluster is connected directly to the things they're displaying, rather than connected to the ECU computer. Or that a PWM servo motor is more reliable than a screen. News flash: if you lose power to either, you aren't able to read it.

An well designed analog guage is easier to read out the corner of your eye, or at a quick glance. But that really only matters if you're racing, and even then it's dubious.

A poorly designed digital guage can be distracting at night, if they use a screen tech that has poor black levels, or have lots of bright elements on the screen at night. It basically shines a light at your face and interferes with your night vision. But most manufacturers are better than that, these days, it's not much different than the light that illuminates your analog gauges.

So really it's personal preference, and some people like to justify their preference with bullshit so that they can feel superior. YMMV.
