I mean, standard marching orders for capitalism/imperialism are:

if someone else has it, take it from them. Weapons free.

I absolutely agree.

But if mass transit had the same investment as road infrastructure gets, it'd be a slam dunk.

I kind of agree. I'm not a pro but I've been using gimp to do little bits of editing (mostly to make slack emojis and memes) for a few years, and I constantly encounter little things that seem like they should be simple and intuitive, but are not.

I haven't used Photoshop in over a decade, but I feel like I rarely felt the same frustration regarding basic tasks.

Hooray! Thanks for all the votes! This was fun, and all the submissions were awesome.

~~The next theme will be: a day in the life of a mad scientist.

(If this is too close to something that was already done, my backup theme is puns)~~

Edit: those were bad theme ideas. I'm gonna have to think about this a bit harder lol

Making it FOSS wouldn't solve the problem, because FOSS tools can still be used by capitalists to displace workers and erode worker bargaining power.

This is true of pretty much EVERY tool, but never has a tool had the potential to negatively impact so many in such a diversity of roles.

So again, the problem isn't closed source, the problem is capitalism. If you fixed the problems of capitalism, then all software tools would naturally be FOSS, but that's a product of fixing the problems, not the mechanism to fix the problems.

Generally you don't want your leader to dress up as a villain unless it's blindingly self deprecating. At least that's how I see it.

While you're theoretically right, we've seen in practice that nobody really offers even the imperfect privacy you describe, and on decentralized systems it only becomes harder to solve.

A Facebook style centralized network where you explicitly grant access to every single person who can see your content - is as close as we can get. But nobody is trying to make that kind of social network anymore, because there isn't much demand for it.

If you want a soapbox (Twitter/mastodon/bluesky, Reddit/Lemmy/kbin, Instagram/pixelfed, YouTube/toktok/peertube) then privacy is going to be a dream, especially if decentralized.

Tfw sense of smell comes back but all jumbled up so chicken nuggets and poop both smell like fryer greese, so you get mixed feelings walking by McDonald's
