Personally I think the issue is more that there is blind loyalty to team sports in USA culture, and no matter how many bad things are documented about a specific person (Donald Trump, Richard Nixon)... people are loyal to the image of that person, the brand and logo. People are raised in the USA to be inundated with breakfast cereal and toy company logo/brand recognition. It's a faith system. Breakfast cereals and fast-food "Happy plates" that fund a lot of children's TV are incredibly unhealthy and profit machines - and parents think this is psychologically healthy.

Politics will eventually be replaced by imagery. The politician will be only too happy to abdicate in favor of his image, because the image will be much more powerful than he could ever be. -Marshall McLuhan

"Domain is not in allowlist"... Do you changed the default allow/block lists?

I've found this time of day that lemmy.ml runs the slowest/most overload.

Maybe show some screenshots of what you see. Most clients show you the community the post is from.

Sunday, lemmy.ml is performing better than I have seen it in 60 days. I did get errors on Saturday and significant lag. Not sure if activity is just today or what, but it's really been fast in routine browsing.

For the rest of your post, I don’t know what that has to do with people aggreating on LW.

aggregation refers to the lemmy database tables, site_ aggregates, community, person. The SQL TRIGGER logic lemmy_server uses that has been the source of so many crashes the past 60+ days.

Fake news never makes demands on its target audience.

consumerism, purchasing the sponsor products, donating to the clergy....

Hi. This is typical right now of lemmy fderation based on my own personal testing.

  1. There is a 10 second timeout in HTTP that I think is on the short side.
  2. The peer servers your lemmy instance is trying to reach are suffering from big PostgreSQL overload due to some TRIGGER logic in lemmy 0.18.2 and earlier. Hopefully the 0.18.3 release will be fixed up and deployed on many of these sites fixing the worst of it.

As you also can see, one single http timeout spits out tons of log lines. I created a GitHub issue to try and get that down to one line so my server isn't constantly writing to logs. https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3627

Agreed, and the emphasis on the Lemmy GitHub page that it has "full delete" doesn't have any kind of disclaimer about this. Newcomers to the project just don't realize it.
