Who's going to build it? Lmao... I suppose if the Viets are just pulling one on France though, good on them (and if they actually build the rail while doing so, all the better)

Honestly for Trump, I kinda want him to live at least till the voting starts. Maximize the fallout and all that.

Could anything Vance said have topped this? https://hexbear.net/post/3602472?scrollToComments=false

(I'm aware MSM is trying to paint it as a "verbal slip/mistake"- but when you read the context it makes absolutely no sense for it to have been anything but deliberate)

I'm pretty sure Marx had some things to say about "treats" (not the "opiates of the masses" and whatnot, but the genuine enjoyment of and engagement with life and good things).

The less you eat, drink and read books; the less you go to the theatre, the dance hall, the public house; the less you think, love, theorize, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you save-the greater becomes your treasure which neither moths nor dust will devour-your capital. The less you are, the more you have; the less you express your own life, the greater is your alienated life-the greater is the store of your estranged being

Humans are genuinely designed to like and seek out foods with sugar (though the modern refined version is absolutely disastrous, I agree), and foods with sugar/sweetness exist in nature all around us. Just like how most humans (and even some animals and plants) have an appreciation for, I dunno, the beauty of nature and art and music. Similarly, coca has its own history within the indigenous peoples of Latin America (as do other addictive substances, or substances that get refined to such an extent that they become addictive because of capital and capitalism). Sugarcane has a long and delicious history without being refined into white sugar, and if you've ever had sugarcane juice it's absolutely delicious.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be limitations on things that can take on addictive and harmful qualities- because there absolutely should be (sugar, coca, and other such drugs being around the top of that list for needing considerable management- though sugar certainly can't feasibly be just erased from human culture within the foreseeable future- hell, it's part of our biology, it's literally how our bodies are fueled).

Fingers crossed, hopefully this helps further kill US soft power/pop culture influence. Humanity will get free of it eventually!

Citizencon

How do they even have enough fans to fill a convention after all these years? lmao

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

even the frothist of frothers don't go complaining about it (I hope)

Even if they did, they should stay mad. None of the Anglo settler-colonial names are legitimate after all.

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

On the one hand I get they want to make the zionists look strong, but on the other wouldn't it lend itself to greater urgency and frothing rage if they met the Iranian narrative half-way

I think the answer is simple. Isntreal is a settler-state, and it is a settler-state which has not succeeded in eradicating the indigenous peoples to such an extent that they are the minority (when one considers the surrounding Arab and Muslim-majority states actually, rather the opposite).

They have to maintain the image of the "untouchable ubermensch." Psychologically they have to, but also strategically; all they offer the local peoples is terrorism and genocide, so they must ensure that all the local peoples (who number more than them) fear them more than they hate them. This is also exactly the same as how colonial forces across the globe acted- with the promise of extreme and inordinate terrorism- to maintain their rule, and to create the circumstances where they could establish rule to begin with.

The other older settler-states have similar dynamics, but have had more time and space (through the successful and extensive genocides and conquests they engaged in- ie. through their successful lebensraum/Manifest Destiny) to settle into a more "lax" phase of settler-colonialism, where the genocides take a quieter, more low-key form of suppression. They all had the same foundational psychology however, and will all generally act in the same way Isntreal has if provoked. And of course, the examples of all the failed settler-states (Nazi Germany, French Algeria, "Rhodesia," British Kenya, Apartheid South Africa, etc. and even the resurgent indigenism within parts of Latin America) show what happens if the settlers cannot succeed in genociding off the vast majority of the indigenous peoples of an entire geographic region.

I used google translate to understand this- but in regards to the travel I would be interested in chipping in (to my understanding flights from Egypt to Canada would be around the 1000$ CAD range, probably others can find for less), by the end of the year or into the new year certainly. It would be best if others can also be found to pool resources, perhaps from here or elsewhere (and I'll ask around about what might exist here).

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

I can ask around here what can be done to help, in regards to the lawyer and whatnot. No promises though that anything meaningful will come of it, so no need to translate this.

You can tell him I'll do what I can, and that I also have received immense help before and would not be alive without it (though my situations were nothing like his). And that I also know how it is like being too proud to beg, etc. And I appreciate his response, and wish for the best for him and his family.

Thanks, I love the series. It's wish fulfillment and hits a lot of cultural and (traumatic? shitty upbringing?) relativity sweet spots for me, however flawed it may be.

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

Ah ok, no worries then. In regards to the pooling of money, I would still be interested in knowing what minimum amounts could be meaningful and if such a process would be of interest (and am still offering to try to look up and try to connect him with resources here, since he wants to get out).
