FWIW I tend to block power users on whatever site I'm on. It feels like going to a party and having three people come and stand between you and the party. I also block a ton of meme and nonsense groups, that's not why I come to lemmy.

Work boots - Redback - until they split at the bridge and water gets in - ~4 years.

Runners - Asics Trail Running shoes - until the foam in the sole has worn down. 1500km (8km/day dog walking).

Crocks - Until they're fucked. Had them two years now.

Birkenstocks - Until they're fucked. Had them six years now. Self replacing the sole was a waste of time for me. I'll but another pair sometime but I only wear them a few months of the year.

Another rule - If you're actually firing a gun and never have, only load one bullet. I've seen plenty of videos where someone fires a second accidental shot because they weren't ready for the recoil. More of an issue with bigger caliber guns but firearm negligence can be fatal so don't fuck about.

Oh my god I just finished that. I'm not a big reader and it was such a fucking drag from the second half of the book. Good action in the fist few chapters and I liked the old timey sci fi lingo but a total wankfest as you say.
