Kadyrov is what happens if you take a Andrew Tate-esque figure, make him live in Russia for two decades all expenses paid and no limits on his worst impulses, and then gave him a sizable army to command

every entertaining thing he does is inevitably overshadowed by him being just the shittiest person alive within 100 miles of his current location

Let's be honest with ourselves: everybody of consequence is getting airlifted out of Tel Aviv as soon as things look shaky enough. None of those people are going to actually want to go down with the ship, most of them are probably Western citizens anyway, so they'll go form a government in exile in Florida or something and Mossad/Shin Bet dudes will be directly employed by US intelligence agencies. Everybody else who isn't important enough (mid-level military command and the like) will hopefully get Nuremburg'd and executed. It seems plausible that Hamas keeps some kind of list of offenders because I've seen news that they've targetted people who have done particularly heinous shit, but I'm not 100% sure.

it's really an unbearable experience.

before 2022 I was well aware on an intellectual level that the media was bad and misrepresenting things and had strongly ingrained most of the more lib-accepted critiques about how it spreads negativity and panic for views and profit, etc. but nowadays when I'm exposed to it, it's a much more visceral dislike and disgust. not sure if I've just changed and it's been the same the whole time, or if it's also gotten much worse as well, but it feels like they've perfectly triangulated the perfect way to deliver information that is simultaneously devoid of substance, meaning, and accuracy. it's like watching paint dry, but if the paint was in the shape of a swastika

To shoot or not to shoot: Chinese-developed ‘golden veil’ could make deadly missiles look like passenger planes

A gold-plated camouflage veil that can make a cruise missile look like a passenger plane on a radar screen could “change the face of war”, according to the team of Chinese scientists behind the design.

The low-cost technology can confuse expensive air defence systems and significantly reduce the time available for military commanders to respond – if at all.

Developed by a research team in northwest China, the project is part of an ongoing effort by China to build up a wide range of ways it can penetrate air defence systems in the first island chain, Guam or even the US homeland.

I can see a major problem with this - you're assuming that the United States is above shooting down passenger planes.

French Communists want alternative to Mélenchon-driven left coalition

“The seriousness of the international situation, as in France, calls on the left to live up to its responsibilities. Unfortunately, it has not”, the French Communist Party (PCF), which is also part of the left-wing alliance NUPES, said in a statement issued on Sunday. The PCF, which met at its National Council, suggests ending NUPES, the alliance formed for the legislative elections in June 2022. It now brings together left-wing MPs in an “intergroup” in the National Assembly. Today, the NUPES, “formed […] under the hegemonic will of [Mélenchon’s party] LFI, has become a dead end”, the communists said in their statement.

“The recent refusal to describe the atrocities committed by Hamas as terrorist acts” and “the insults of LFI leaders, comparing the PCF leadership to Nazi collaborationists” were among the reasons listed in the statement.

This “weakens the rallies needed for peace in the Middle East and the fight against the Israeli army’s war crimes”, the PCF National Council added.

...

However, the Communists still want to “bring together the people, the world of work and the left” through “a rally that is useful and respects our differences”.

...

“I don’t even know what to say about Jean-Luc Mélenchon anymore. I have the impression that he and his camp are engaged in a strategy of permanent conflict”, explained Marine Tondelier, the head of the Green party, on France Culture on Saturday.

Western leftists have gotta be the most useless fucking people on the planet. Holy fucking shit.

It's so funny that we're on the cusp of a conflict that might devour the whole Middle East and Biden, a sentient fossil that predates the fucking dinosaurs, is the guy leading America into it

I actually hate what both sides have been doing, which is why I spend 99.76% of my time and comments on what Palestine has done to Israel and why Palestinians now deserve what's coming to them. The remaining 0.24% is a single comment from 2014 saying "thoughts and prayers".

In a widely condemned televised speech, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said his people should accept the prospect of going hungry as the price of the country's success. In the remarks on Saturday, Sisi also called his opponents “liars, saboteurs and wicked”, as critics questioned the billions spent on infrastructure projects that he has undertaken as many Egyptians struggle to make ends meet.

“Don’t you Egyptians dare say you would rather eat than build and progress,” Sisi said. “If the price of the nation’s progress and prosperity is to go hungry and thirsty, then let us not eat or drink,” he added. “Don’t undermine the cause of our nation and make us the world’s laughing stock. Stand fast and transform the cruel circumstances we are going through into a gift. The harder you stand fast, the sooner it [the economic crises] will pass."

In a meandering and times informal dialogue, the Egyptian president suggested ways in which he could “destroy” Egypt, if he were so inclined, by distributing pills to foster chaos in the country. Sisi said that he spoke with the Supreme Judicial Council regarding how easy the country would be to destroy and had concluded that giving 100,000 people in “difficult circumstances” tramadol, a strong opioid, would do the trick at a cost of no more than $30m.

Analysts have predicted that Egypt is the country second most at risk of a debt crisis, coming just after war-torn Ukraine.

Lukashenko, to Ukrainian journalist, emphasis mine:

Lukashenko: "I've drawn this map specifically for you. Russia will crush your personnel and hardware over there. Those motivated, ideologically strong, Nazis as they are called, those ideologically strong men are no longer around. All of them have died already. Who is fighting here, then? Those you can catch in the streets and bring here. They are not prepared. Well, and a bit of military personnel. They will not be able to defeat this machine. Russia has changed. At present, Russia has cutting edge weapons at the front. There are plenty of drones now. Well, it is a totally different army now. And the most dangerous thing... I don't know whether I should tell you or not..."

Reporter: "Please do!"

L: "They have 250,000 volunteers! Russia has 250,000! Who are not at the front yet!"

R: "In reserve now?"

L: "Volunteers! They have been trained and they are in reserve. Do you understand how many people 250,000 are? Russia has fewer people at the front now. So they are staying on the defensive. Not because they cannot advance. They don't have to! And you keep walking like people who have had too much drugs and alcohol. You walk [with assault rifles] at the ready like German Nazis in movies. You walk towards these barricades. But you cannot even reach them. We can see it, and it is so. You cannot even reach the minefields. You are just getting slaughtered in thousands. Your counteroffensive cost 45,000 in dead and maimed. 45,000! So they are on the defensive. Your losses are 1 to 8. 1 to 8 at the front line. And 250,000 in reserve with cutting edge hardware. You will be crushed. Then they will do what you and your leadership fear the most. They will cut you off by advancing towards Moldova, towards Transdniestria. What will you do after that? And Poles rub their hands in glee. Pushed by Americans, they will cut off the western regions. You will have only this little bit left, if any at all. This is what will happen to you. And the state, the Ukraine you and I know, will cease to me. Our native land. Yours and mine."

R: "Has this history been determined? What you are saying now..."

L: "If you don't stop now, it will happen! If you don't start negotiations now. Russia suggests it. You don't want it? Well, if you don't want it, we don't need it! Russia is powerful enough. No West will help you in this regard. You have to take your head into your hands and act on the basis of reality. Act in the interests of this huge and beautiful territory. The West is already starting to understand that nothing will come out of it. Ukraine will not be able to survive even with the West's aid."
