This started on Wednesday, almost immediately after Trump's victory was announced. By Friday it was already being reported in grade schools because asshole parents enjoy raising asshole sons, and Trump tells people that it's ok to be the absolute worst human being they can be.

I have a friend who is a hard Republican. We generally don't talk politics, but after this started last week he was posting things online being offensive towards women and POC (and the whole "illegals took my job and healthcare") so I finally had to call him out. His response was basically that he wasn't aware of any increased discrimination happening against women, therefore he didn't believe it was happening. I've known the guy for 40 years but this may be the thing that breaks our friendship. He claims to be an advocate for people's rights yet he is painfully unaware of the world around him.

Wow, the comments in that article pretty much sum up the snowflake dynamic of conservatives. Not telling your husband who you voted for violates the sanctity of marriage? Maybe if you weren't such a putz and actually listened to the reasons why no woman anywhere should be voting for Trump, your wife wouldn't need to hide it from you. Maybe if you weren't such a precious snowflake who was likely to be set off in a rage by the idea that a woman could have a valid reason for casting a vote that wasn't centered around your manhood somehow being threatened by the idea of voting for a female president, your wife wouldn't have to hide her vote from you.

This election isn't about red vs. blue, it's about women literally dying because of the draconian laws conservatives are passing under the guise of "anti-abortion". There's nothing hypothetical about this, it's already happening, and giving Trump and Vance any ground to move forward with Project 2025 is going to make it so much worse.

Probably because conservatives hate it when their brand of sensationalism is used against them. Turn up the heat and watch them make increasingly hilarious gaffs, which makes for even more headlines.

Is this supposed to be a bad thing? Honestly I don't want the guy holding the nuclear launch codes to be making decisions on a few hours of sleep, no matter what your age is.

I've been seeing some complaints about the methodology of this poll, there is one good write-up presented here. Basically what it comes down to is that the New York Times not only cherry-picked from their own data, but they also polled heavily from Conservative voters rather than getting averages based on the demographics of each state.

It makes better headlines than the reality (both candidates are pretty evenly matched in each of the swing states with no clear winner), but this information is pretty much worthless other than hopefully getting more people to vote this year.

I actually started questioning whether this was something my parent's told me to keep me busy, but turns out it's a real thing.

Back in the days when we all had antennas and cable hadn't been born yet, the static stations were a great thing to watch if there might be a tornado in your area. Apparently if one formed, it would significantly change the look of the snow on the TV and give you a warning to quickly head to the basement. I never actually saw it happen, but there were a couple times we had local warnings and my parents plopped me down to keep an eye on the TV.

I would suggest that anything from reason.com belongs on The Onion, but that would be a serious insult to The Onion. Surely OP doesn't take anything from that site seriously, or think it's based on factual information?

You might want to use a code block instead of bullet points for your table, the way you presented it is unreadable but I found the info on your blog page.

One of my criteria for video formats is the portability. Like sometimes I might watch something through a web browser which natively supports x264. Yeah x265 provides better compression, and AV1 certainly looks interesting, but they both require the addition of codecs on most of my viewing devices and in some cases that's not possible.

For most cases I've found that CRF25 with x264 works reasonably well. I tend to download 720p videos to watch on our 1080p TV and don't notice the difference except in very minor situations like rapid motion on a solid-color background (usually only seen on movie studio logo screens). Any sort of animated shows can go even lower without noticeable degradation.

Wow does anyone know where that first picture comes from? That mountain range looks like someone just jammed a bunch of glass shards into the ground!

You're braver than me... Most of the time "unsubscribe" is actually a signal that the spam was received by a mailbox with a live human reading it, and they automatically sign you up for several other mailing lists.
