So AGI is 0.5-2 years away. After which the singularity happens and due to AI alignment we either are immortal forever, or everybody is diamondoid paperclips.

A normal human takes 18 years to grow to maturity. So for the sake of the argument (yes yes, don't hand it to ISIS) a supergene baby can do that in 9 years. (poor kid). Those timelines seem at odds with each other (and that is assuming the research was possible now).

I know timelines and science fiction stories are a bit fluid but, come on, at least pretend you believe in it. I'm not saying he is full of shit but... no wait, I am saying that.

Wait, they replaced the two masts with one double sized one? That seems a bit unwise.

Most of the time, though, the Bayesian operated like a motorboat, powered by two enormous diesel engines. During her five-day voyage, Ms. VanSickle said they sailed only once, for just a few hours. But when they did, the boat moved through the water so smoothly, she said, it felt like they were “gliding.”

Yes that is how sailing often feels if the water isnt choppy.

This reminds me of a story by somebody I knew who once was a libertarian once told me. He was into heavy metal, as a lot of people I know/knew are, and a libertarian so he was curious about NSBM, so he applied to go to one of those concerts and eventually he got a meeting point where they all gathered, and then they were bussed to the actual location of the concert (which was secret so kafka (our antifascist research group) couldn't identify the location and do something about the fascists. Not many people I know really talk to this guy anymore (he has some 'interesting' opinions on borders now).

Anyway, mostly unrelated to the culty school, I was just reminded of this story of fascists doing reasonably good opsec. (And the failure of me and the metal community at large to not do something about this, can't recall anybody (me included) to react to this enormous red flag in hindsight).

Considering that the idea of the singularity of AGI was the exponential function going straight up, I don't think this persons understands the problem. Lol, LMAO foomed the scorpion.

(Also that is some gross weird eugenics shit).

E: also isn't IQ a number that gets regraded every now and then with an common upper bound of 160? I know the whole post is more intended as vaguely eugenics aspirational but still.

Anyway, time to start the lucrative field of HighIQHuman safety research. What do we do if the eugenics superhumans goals don't align with humanity?

Roko even said the 'I think agricultural waste products like straw can be substituted for sawdust so maybe you are paid to take it off their hands.[emph mine]' line. which is always a good sign when somebody is trying to the economically feasible math.

Themotte is a spinoff from the slatestarcodex subreddit, they used to have a culture war thread every week, which always filled up with (far) right culture war grievances which they then all pretended to talk neutral about. (The effect was mostly that peoples overton window was drawn right). Eventually the stink of it got so bad that Scott Alexander had to take action (he wrote slatestarcodex before he sold out and now runs a substack), so he told them with his semi blessing to go make their own subreddit.

Which was pretty bad, a place where you could said anything (esp rightwing) as long as you used enough words to explain it. (the 14 words did sneak at times, and I saw (sadly didn't archive it) openly neo-nazi homesteaders try to recruit there. So a lot of 'themotte people didn't think they were on the same side as the far right, but the far right certainly did think that'). Etc etc. Eventually the reddit admins got more and more annoyed with the place, and (this is a bit speculative on my part) after somebody got banned(*) for explaining the triple parenthesis dogwhistle by the admins they freaked out and made their own site.

*: A thing I noticed at the time, which themotte people didn't this guy who got banned was from Germany, which has a little bit stronger rules re antisemitism so the admins banning them for that wouldn't surprise me, esp if it was automated. And for the people who don't know, on reddit every forum has mods who come from the forum(called a subreddit), and the site itself has admins, so that is why there is sometimes some moderation conflict. The mods were afraid the admins were about to ban the subreddit, which would destroy all the past content, so they made a new site.

E: also wow themotte has gotten a lot worse when it went offsite. Jesus some of the comments in that thread. I feel bad for TWG.

TL;DR:

What is this, rat-4chan?

Yes

Yes we could just shoot the severs, but what if the AI develops an anti-bullet shield, and then we shoot it with anti-bullet shield bullets, and then it creates an anti-bullet shield bullet bullet shield, and then, ... and then ...

Anyway, those kinds of kids reality free, imagination games of move and counter move were pretty cool when you were 8 years old.

Sorry got distracted a bit and just wanted to share, not related to the topic at hand.

The covid didn't happen at all substack (I checked their twitter) also doesn't believe any recent pandemic happened (no swineflu's ever), and it gets better the spanish flu also was a planned event, nor do they believe that anti-depressants help people, is a climategate truther etc (They are also pretty pro Israel in the current conflict but that should come as no surprise). So well done linking to that Scott.

The average r/sneerclub post consisted of finding something seemingly absurd or offensive said by a rationalist and then mocking it. The resulting threads are obviously biased and not epistemically rigorous.

This is correct

Like, Wytham abbey was technically a manor house

Lol, 'technically it was a manor house not a castle' come on, you cannot just complain about how low effort sc is and then post something as silly as that.

Wait, was this bait? Have I been baited?

[-] Soyweiser@awful.systems 26 points 11 months ago

Yeah that is one of the more fucked up things about gap, them doing it all in the open and not being ashamed about it. It is scary how quickly we went from 'lol look at what these crazy neo-nazis believe in secret' a decade ago to it all being mainstreamed.

'Come out against the woke agenda'

I'm reminded of the person on twitter who went 'Wonder when his sex crimes come out' after Russell Brand rebranded as a conspiracy rightwinger. Note: This tweet was made before his sex crimes came out.

Men will literally write a 17 minute article before asking women 'hey how can I become more attractive'

And I'm adamantly against pretending real things aren't real. I think that's actually more fundamentally toxic than is homophobia, transphobia, etc.

Euh, well at least all the red flags will attract tankies.
