There is no contradiction there whatsoever, and it's actually a form of transphobia to think that there is. Most of us have learned transphobia from the society around us, so it's important to recognize it and stamp it out when it crops up.

Also, people's identities are important; trying to ignore them is a form of retreat used by reactionaries to avoid having to grow socially.
