So far so good! Have tested the system for a little while now, and have not been able to run into the same issues as before - so this might have solved the issues I've been having. While Ubuntu is not my first choice of distro, I will choose it any time of the day over Windows!

I think most people don't understand the fact that Kagi is meta-search engine which literally collect the results of other search engines and display it and add very small amount of results from their index(tecilis).

People basically pay them to search Yandex and Brave for them.

You're enticing that they 'do very little'. But they do search multiple sources at once, providing a better choice of results for their users in addition to allowing users further customizable filters. If they're doing this then they're doing more than just the standard 'Yandex/Brave' search as you describe.

I do however, agree that they should state that they are a metasearch engine if that is their case. Also just seen their pricing - ludicrous!

As far as I know there are these;

  • Camel case = coolFileName
  • Snake case = cool_file_name
  • Kebab case = cool-file-name
  • Pascal case = CoolFileName
  • Dot notation = cool.file.name
  • Flat case = coolfilename
  • Screaming case = COOLFILENAME

Personally I prefer the kebab/dot conventions simply because they allow for easy "navigation" with (ctrl+arrow keys) between each part. What are your preferences when it comes to this? Did I miss any schemes?

Hi.

Tried to install nix but am stuck with an issue I'm not able to resolve. Whenever I boot the system, it uses approx 5min on the boot-up of Nixos Stage #1 as seen in the picture. After a while it will boot into the system but without a GUI. I've done the installation twice, with different isos to make sure I didn't do it wrong. It only works if I downgrade to nixos 23.11, but if I update(+plasma 6) from there It results in the same problem.

The error is:

kernel: Acpi Error: Aborting method (long string) due to previous error (AE_AML_UNINITIALIZED_ELEMENT)

Have no idea what this error is, and there don't seem to be alot of info on it. Reaching out here to see if anyone is able to help me troubleshoot this, as I would really like to try latest Nixos.

Just stumbled upon this project, seems rather new as my DNS blocked its domain by default for being too new hehe.. Anyone had a chance to try it yet? Its got some hefty promises, like having equally strong privacy features as Librewolf. I'll be giving it ago at least, almost sounds a bit too good to be true...

Only recently discovered yt-dlp, despite its popularity. However I was wondering if I were to use this, should it be used behind a VPN when downloading videos off public websites?

Hiya, so looking to download videos of certain websites. So far been using https://www.downloadhelper.net/ extension to download the videos manually, but it turns into a very tedious process after a while. Looking for a way to automate this process :) Let me know if there are any tools, programs or solutions to grab stuff off the internet.

Hi there, I just acquired myself the Sennheiser Momentum 4, mainly for using while communting + work. But figured i'd try them out for some gaming too. They work just fine when watching YT or any video, but when I launch a game the audio quality changes significantly. I have no idea how or why its doing it, nor how to fix it. I've tried all of these different audio profile options, but all of them make the audio either distorted, weak, or make it sound like the audio is trapped inside a room... Anyone know how to go about this? Audio works fine with my normal non-wireless headset.

My system is running Bazzite.

Appreciate any pointers to how to resolve this.

damn, surely you can block their emails though? No way they're sending that from different emails each time? I hope..

200

Believe I also turned off all "promo" emails and communications of any sort in the settings while i did have linkedin... thinking about just straight up deleting it now instead of leaving the profile deactivated.

Just wondering how you guys balance the mix of these. Our cats looooove wet food, but keep it as a treat for every now and then. Have to keep the wet cat food in a plastic sealed container as our cats will tear through the box they come in and dig their way through haha.

Thought id share a recent finding i stumbled upon, as someone who both loves the CLI and markdown, this was a true gem to find for me. Hope others will enjoy it as much as i do :)

What is it?

Glow is a terminal based markdown reader designed from the ground up to bring out the beauty—and power—of the CLI. Use it to discover markdown files, read documentation directly on the command line. Glow will find local markdown files in subdirectories or a local Git repository.

The Boy and The Heron

A truly excellent movie made by Ghibli, fantastic studio with some really high quality films. Definitely recommend giving it a watch.

It was indeed this! Thanks :)

Yeah, well said.

I reckon a couple people downvote as they don't like videos linked, which I can understand. However these types of videos are great as they are all apart of distributing knowledge around Linux and why it' can be such a productive tool, compared to windows.

Thanks for sharing 🌻

In February, numerous schools in Chennai were targeted with hoax bomb threats sent via encrypted email service Proton Mail. The Indian government sought action against Proton Mail due to its misuse by malicious individuals. Swiss authorities intervened to prevent the platform from being blocked in India. Despite police efforts to trace the origin of the threats, Proton Mail's encryption hindered investigations. The company refused to comply with Indian authorities' requests for information, citing Swiss law. Proton Mail argued that blocking the service wouldn't deter cybercriminals and could impede legitimate users. This incident isn't the first time Proton Mail has faced controversy; it was previously blocked in Russia for similar reasons.

You can still block ads on a DNS level. Simply add, base.dns.mullvad.net as your primary DNS Server and that should do you a lot of good just there. I'm sure there are additional steps one could take as an iPhone user though.

I've used Tailscale for this numerous times, and ZerpTier. Please get rid of Hamachi, it's truly terrible software.

If you still end up using Discord over other solutions, you can use https://vencord.dev/, it is discord, but with all the telemetry pulled out of it. Been using this for when I need to use Discord, assume it's better than using normal discord at least, but probably still not a perfect solution.
