the energy has to come from somewhere

The car is making electricity when driving lights on or off. If the battery is full it's lost to waste.

Now that I think about it, I wonder why I empathised so much with the big strong bearded guy worried about hurting others, who was hopelessly devoted to a confident and beautiful wife who was playfully mean to him.

While he was enjoying an after work beer he noticed the ~~bartender~~ moderator booting out a seemingly quiet patron. This patron was wearing a jacket covered in ~~Nazi~~ Reddit debate bro symbolism.

When Tager asked about why he booted the guy, the ~~bartender~~ moderator, a seasoned pro, said that if you let one ~~Nazi~~ Reddit Debate Bro in, slowly they replace the clientele.

“You have to nip it in the bud immediately,” he said, as Trager paraphrased. “These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after a while, they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.”

“And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh *****, this is a ~~Nazi bar~~ Reddit debate bro forum now,” he continued. ”And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.”

My personal algorithm that I worked out for this is I budget 5min for every one hour block I expect the event or activity to take up. That's how early I'm allowed (and conversely how late I will let some be without being annoyed).

So 6hr event? Yeah I can be 30min early. 1hr appointment? Only 5min. etc

(except being early to parties, that sucks for the host)

Finished or just reading?

I’m almost finished Ex Libris by Simon Groth. It’s like a YA update of Fahrenheit 451. It has this gimmick that 12 chapters are randomly shuffled, like background vignettes on the 4 main characters so every copy is unique. Neat in concept but overall the book is okay, fun at times but not great.

Before that I finished Everything for Everyone : an Oral History of the New York Commune. It’s a speculative fiction post a successful 21st century communist revolution. It’s nice to read an upbeat sci fi setting, and I think it’s good to show societies absent of capitalism like The Dispossessed does. I found it a bit slow though, like it’s anthology interviews, not a lot of drama or tension.

Before that I raced through Welcome to Dorley Hall and really liked it. I’m trying to wait for the next paperback as I’m trying to get back into physical book reading but it’s so good I might read it online via the patreon.

Got an email notification that Hirbawi Kufiyehs, Palestinian jewelry and leather goods were in stock. I didn't realize it was not the Australian supplier but the USA store (must have subscribed at some point). I saw a bunch of neat bracelets and rings out of copper, tried to buy them, my credit card declined and even when I fixed it, I realized they won't ship to me.

The leather goods are pretty neat. They have a leather passport holder which I guess the idea is if you're part of the diaspora with a passport from another country you can carry it in something that says "State of Palestine" and looks like a passport.
