"The temple is built on the site of a centuries-old mosque that was destroyed by far-right Hindu mobs in 1992, who say a temple originally stood there."

these are my essentials:

  • blender -> 3d graphics software, and with the blenderbim addon it turns into an architecture/engineering beast,
  • freecad -> parametric 3d drawing program, amazing for 3d printing, also has a bim addon,
  • qcad -> cad drawing software,
  • qgis -> topology software,
  • kicad -> circuit design software,
  • krita -> it used to be just a painting program, lately it's become a great graphics software,
  • gimp -> it's always contested but still my favorite image editor,
  • ardour -> my favorite daw,
  • lyx -> great latex editor,
  • at last but not least: vim -> the greatest editor of all time

people are so naive, agin and again. if anyone thinks this is anything other than facebook trying to kill the alternatives, they should look at the history of gtalk/xmpp.

mastodon is a viable alternative to twitter, and this means that anyone can go: "there can be other alternatives". like reddit/lemmy, instagram/pixelfed, youtube/peertube, twitch/owncast, etc. and this is not good for business.

i thought hbomberguy's video was cut off really short, i could watch it for days (really, not satire).

freecad IS the tool for you. the learning curve may seem steep at first, but it's really not. after you spend some time with it, things start to click. i love it.

as i understood, he did not compare ukraine to palestine but he said while they say that ukraine is entitled to resistance but palestine is not (paraphrasing). cnn turned it around in the summary text.

"What will be the consequences of non-compliance?

Fines: of up to 10% of the company’s total worldwide annual turnover, or up to 20% in the event of repeated infringements"

it's a tough pill to swallow.

you're not exactly saying the thing on the meme, but god, the line is awfully thin. capitalism IS the unfathomably rich.

politicians are doing exactly what they're there for: protecting the interets of the unfathomably rich.

stacking wm -> wayfire

tiling wm -> sway [corrected, i don't know what was going through my mind]

terminal emulator -> alacritty or foot

the frustration is awfully familiar, i must say.

the thing about gimp and krita is: gimp is an image manipulation software and krita is a drawing software, and as far as i can see from my so's work, photoshop is a somewhat mixture of those two. from the jump, we're not comparing apples to apples, unfortunately.

but you already answered your own question, i think.

see, foss programs aren't there to be a drop-in replacment for their closed sourced alternatives. they emerge from a need from the community. what is more, usually you will have multiple programs encompassing a single workflow of their closed sourced counterparts; meaning they are modular.

so even if there was some other program apart from these, it would have a learning curve, unless adobe open sources photoshop. so there is a viable alternative (which i know from experience) but there is a learning curve, albeit a steep one for someone coming from photoshop.

you shouldn't limit yourself, but it would immensely improve your understanding of the software if you try to recreate simple pieces of your workflow using gimp, once in a while.
