Not the Verbena bonariensis? I think it looks very much like that one, although i now read they grow 150cm tall, sometimes 180. I just measured mine and my guess was pretty good, its 195cm tall.
It does not have many leaves really, but they look like this:

I'm a bit scared of vipers, haha. Did they leave when you were getting closer? Were you just in the Pyrenees or are these pictures from another time? Really loved it there and I want to go back for more.
