i can understand being dubious of WhatsApp given it's closed source and owned by Facebook. but Telegram and WeChat? Both closed source and with very questionable encryption? Signal is the only clear answer.

also side-note, WhatsApp audits and analyses have all come back confirming it's at least deploying the same end-to-end encryption as Signal, though stores a bit more metadata. so Facebook knows when / who you're messaging. Telegram / WeChat are much worse in this regard. as an anti western imperialist i'd still choose WhatsApp over Telegram / WeChat for comms. though ideally none of the above for anything important

of course, we must keep supplying the source of their misery, how else can we then help them out of their misery?

and that's bad why?

I disagree, the judge declared the sentence time hinged on the girl being the ringleader of the two and specifically targeting the victim (at least partially) out of transphobia. it was only the cops that said it wasn't related to transphobia, and frankly the cops in this country have a shite reputation for being transphobic themselves so chances they'd look over that are high.

of course it has to be westernized ...

same. initially i was worried about the performance compared to "native" clients like Boost,Sync, etc but even as a PWA written in JS i have zero issues with it.

Pixel 4 is a good choice imo, it's what I'm currently using. It has a Snapdragon 855 with 6GB RAM which is very speedy day-to-day. Face unlock which works even in pitch black. Camera is great, even compared to current generation phones. it's end-of-life from Google but it's still officially supported by LineageOS and gets lots of commits.

it has a 5.7" screen, though with it having minimal bezels most of that is height so it's not a big wide phablet type thing.

if you already have alternatives in mind I'd ignore my advice, but otherwise you'll probably find it difficult getting still supported devices with displays in the 3-4" range unfortunately, just the way the market seems to have gone with phone designs :/

I'd loved Anandtech in the past, for how they used to be. hadn't heard of those other numbers 2,3,4 before, thanks for posting them!
