While the series' love of fighting is very real (the author has a lot of experience in martial arts) and the fighting is more grounded than something like DBZ, the world of Baki is very OTT. Like theres an arc where the most dangerous prisoners from prisons all over the world break out and go to Japan to challenge Baki. I kinda like how the series takes itself seriously and never winks at the reader despite how insane things get. That and the brutal fight scenes; they're great. Regarding the Musk thing, the author seems to love real-world cameos.
