I grew up in Idaho. Can confirm, that's basically the whole population.

I think it's a uniquely good topic to have in both places. I first learned about Linux on reddit in Chrome on a Windows machine. It really helped lower my barrier to entry to chat with people on a platform that was accessible to my skill level at that time. But now I'm really glad there are nice foss places to talk about it as well.

I have an irrational fear of this acronym. I think I'm worried I might accidentally recurse forever, and that will become the only thing I do for the rest of my existence.

We (I'm a CS researcher) already kind of do, I upload almost everything to arxiv.org and researchgate. Some fields support this more than others, though.

It would be beautiful to donate to the local pride center in his name and just watch him seethe. That's such a perfect idea, since if he actually voices a complaint, he knows it makes him the asshole.

Yeah I've thought about just doing a few candy bars or something. I think the sunk cost fallacy has kicked in, so I almost want to go higher effort but bad lol

Honestly that's kind of what I'm thinking. Then he has to store them, and he'd feel like he had to wear them at least once. Just a little upsetting for him.

I downloaded all my comments before I deleted the data, and I'm slowly putting all the stuff that was actually important in places where I have a bit more control over how it's used (i.e., the fediverse, my own websites, etc). Not a perfect solution, but if Reddit wanted to keep it forever they should have treated us better.
