Too tired to offer descriptions rn. Just click through them. Also I’m locking this thread. Please listen to what fat activists are talking about. Read the links that have been provided. And fatphobia on the site will continue to be addressed.

GOOD post

edit: worth noting that there are a lot of women on hexbear, your phrasing may imply exclusion of trans women which I assume isn't your intention; ofc the chauvinism you describe affects trans women as well, including i'm sure many trans women who use the site.

no one’s saying it’s acceptable, we’re just saying that it’s not the same as misogynistic harassment. body-shaming is still bad and we are against it. read AcidSmiley’s comment.

I remember when this topic was brought up a few months ago and some “enlightened centrist” men kept trying to debatebro the position that misandry technically exists because some women do not like men (because of their experiences with misogyny), forgetting that misogyny is waaaaaaay more than that lmao. Imagine if misogyny was just “sometimes a man does not like me” instead of a whole system of continual oppression and abuse.

Because "America" is a settler colonial entity violently occupying many Indigenous nations and the Black nation in diaspora.

I've watched a few of those videos, they just made me nostalgic. Hopefully someday I can go back for a visit, it's been a while.

I've seen Indian vegan cooks use tofu as a paneer replacement. Sure, it may not taste exactly, precisely, you-can't-tell-the-difference same, but I think it is kind of stretching it to call it "massacring" the dish. Indian vegans who grew up with palak paneer will try to veganize it so they can enjoy it without the cruelty. It's not that deep.

Also, if vegan influencers put out garbage food then non-vegan ones do too, lol. How many different food influencer videos are there about steak when it's just a slab of flesh that's seasoned with salt and pepper, at the end of the day.

Oh another thing for the "misandry is totally real it's just not systemic" people: "misandry" as a term is itself antifeminist. It's a manosphere and mra chud term that manosphere and mra chuds use as a weapon against feminists. As a comparison: you can say that "all lives matter" has a literal meaning outside the context of its use as a reactionary dogwhistle, but in the real world that's the way its used and you can't separate it from that use. Find me a place where "misandry" is discussed as a serious thing that isn't a reactionary space. You can't, but good luck. Ironically, the idea of "misandry" is weaponized against women in a misogynistic way by denying them even the ability to express anger at their oppression. If you're going to go to bat for the idea of "misandry" as a real, coherent issue, even if you add the caveat that it's not the same as misogyny, just know that you're going to bat on the side of manosphere and mra chuds.

Women who do actually "hate men" would not hate men if men did not systemically oppress them in every aspect of life. This shit doesn't exist in a pool of neutral generalized bigotry that could be theoretically directed anywhere and just happens to be worse towards women. We live in a world that oppresses women. And a world in which reactionaries have always tried to discredit feminism by painting it as being motivated by hatred towards men. (And don't bother bringing up TERFs/radfems, who direct their "hatred of men" towards being misogynistic towards trans women and enforcing patriarchal bioessentialism + cissexism.)

I mean even the Harvard students acknowledge that this concession is meaningless, but they take it as a win for “organizing”. I just find this whole “organizing for organizing’s sake” idea meaningless. We organize towards specific goals, we don’t organize to prove that organizing works. This valorization of tactics in the abstract is something Western leftists need to pull out of if we ever want any militancy.
