It strongly backed making permanent the interim Australian Centre for Disease Control. The government will legislate next year for the CDC, to start on January 1 2026, as an independent statutory agency.

Hoping someone will make a big mural out of it.

Not an asterism but an assterism (or arseterism).

I think I get it now, it's like the way Disney or whatever draw female counterparts. You take a cow and you go, 'hmm, what can I add to make this a sexy female cow?'

Boom, eyebrows and so on. I think that's why this cow looks so weird.

I can only imagine how many fights this would have lead to between my siblings and me.

Evil (2019-2024) (aussie.zone)

Evil is a wickedly fun monster of the week show and our latest 'guilty pleasure'. We're half a dozen episodes into the first season and Michael Emerson is creeping me out again. Also the costumes are amazing. For locals the first three seasons are available on Stan and other streaming services if you're subbed. Synopsis below.

A skeptical clinical psychologist joins a priest-in-training and a blue-collar contractor as they investigate supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and other extraordinary occurrences to see if something truly supernatural is at work.

Estonia (2023) (www.sbs.com.au)

We're a couple of episode in. Reminds me a bit of Chernobyl. I don't know how best to describe the storytelling or narrative. It follows the investigation into the sinking and we get to see glimpses into the tragedy as it unfolds from the perspectives of the survivors, emergency crews and rescuers, and other folks who played a role in supporting the families and friends of the passengers as the investigation unfolds.

From Wikipedia:

This frenzy first occurred in Berlin in 1841 and the term was later coined by Heinrich Heine in a feuilleton he wrote on April 25, 1844, discussing the 1844 Parisian concert season. Lisztomania was characterized by intense levels of hysteria demonstrated by fans, akin to the treatment of celebrity musicians today – but in a time not known for such musical excitement.

And:

Musicologist Dana Gooley argues that Heine's use of the term "Lisztomania" was not used in the same way that "Beatlemania" was used to describe the intense emotion generated towards The Beatles in the 20th century. Instead, Lisztomania had much more of a medical emphasis because the term "mania" was a much stronger term in the 1840s, whereas in the 20th century "mania" could refer to something as mild as a new fashion craze. Lisztomania was considered by some a genuine contagious medical condition and critics recommended measures to immunize the public.

A low bias video essay about the Manosphere by someone who seems to genuinely care about the topic. Thanks to @GardenVarietyAnxiety@lemmy.world for this summary.

If you're looking for a great book about DS9 I cannot recommend A Different Trek by David K. Seitz highly enough.
