When your villain origin story is getting banned from a truck simulator mod because you forgot the macro to turn the headlights on.

Join a union and ask for their advice. Even if there's limitations on what they can do as it seems the process has already started, they'll still be able to advise on what you're able to do deal with constructive dismissal.

Look for another job. It's way easier to find work when you're in work and don't have to explain why you're not at your last job.

Do both of these things. Your health isn't going to benefit working at a place where you're not wanted, even if they can't just fire you.

Oh and if you're in a country where you're allowed a representative in meetings and you can take one, always have your union rep there, no matter how friendly it seems.

On the hottest day of the year a few years ago, the Mormons were out door knocking in their little suits. They were clearly not having a good time so we invited them in for a cold drink just to offer them some respite from the afternoon sun.

They got me to read a passage about Joseph Smith going into a cave and feeling euphoric and were like "well how do does that make you feel" and I'm like "what? I know people who've had more convincing experiences than that who still aren't religious because they knew they were on drugs"

They came back again a few times until it was clear we're absolutely not becoming Mormons.

I sometimes wonder if it occurs to them that we were probably better christians than most actual Christians they've met, even without the blackmail.

Linux is actually kinda designed to be less fragmented than windows really.

The reason you don't pick an install directory is because the standard is that binaries live where binaries live, dependencies live where dependencies live, logs live where logs live, etc.

All the user should worry about is where the media or whatever your program works with is.

Always try to find the apt install instructions for whatever program you want, and it's easy to uninstall with apt remove.

Apart from a few deb packages, almost everything that can't be managed via apt should be considered incomplete or experimental. If it was ready for you to just use it without issue, it would be in an apt repository.

It may seem a bit daunting to have to use command line at first, but once you're used to it, you'll realise how absolutely broken and archaic managing software on windows is. (Like seriously, it's 2024 and you're still having to fish through slow or sketchy websites to find installers for tools and drivers.)

I'm also sceptical of the ghost gun thing. AFAIK the only real ghost gun is an FGC9 which is about the size of a submachine gun and is definitely not what is seen in the video.

It's funny that even the daily mail commenters are celebrating.

I'm not even mad at the employers to be fair. The problem is that so many jobs are just busy-work that exists because as a society we can't imagine decoupling labour from subjugation.

Never approach an empty section of the bar. Make sure to form an orderly queue that blocks the front door and the route to the toilets.

To be honest I'd say it's more similar to anarchism than socialism. Anarchism is voluntarist whilst socialism demands state power first. Both are ideally paths to communism* though so I'm going to say "communism" 'cause it annoys the most people.

communism as in post capitalist, post state utopia, not Stalinism*

What is impact engineering though? If it's it's just agile while being cognisant of technical debt over MVPs, I don't know if it's necessarily that different.

It seems the study was designed to sell a book and I can't find anything about what that book says. I should probably read it but the bait way it's being sold makes me resistant to paying to find out.

Right wing free software users love from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs until you point out what it is.

Then you get whatever this lemmy-wide tantrum is.

I disagree with Dessalines about some stuff but the guy is a don.

I don't know what that post is about. It's not possible to change the contents of a torrent. The torrent file itself is a list of checksums which validate byte ranges within the files being downloaded. If a client downloads a poisoned piece, it discards it and deprioritises the seed it got it from. Perhaps they're transcoding a file, whilst still seeding the original.

Torrents can work as a CDN for static files, because the downloader has to validate that the file is the same one as on the server using the checksums in the torrent file.
