the khan episode of the original series is so cool and the movie is great too. the whole eugenics war backstory feels so evocative for something that's just a backdrop for a singular episode of a show they didn't even know would turn into something as beloved as star trek.

ill also always love the fact that lenard nimoy was like "okay ill do the stupid movie but only if you kill my character so ill never have to do play him again" and then went like "oh actually..." after the movie turned out great. kind of a shame that they brought him back at all with just how fantastic the entire ending sequence to wrath of khan is.

People should pick apart things, people should be critical of the things they consume (most of it is absolute fucking trash anyway, what do you expect from late-stage capitalism). The problem is that gamers just completely lack the critical thinking skills to actually engage with the medium in any productive way. The vast majority of gamers and game journalists view and engage with media as if it was a piece of consumer electronics, like it was a fridge or a stove that had one specific function (that function being "to entertain") and its quality lies only in whether it can perform that function with the least amount of friction for the least amount of effort. For them games are not art or cultural artifacts, but any value they have lies completely in what mindless entertainment they can provide.

what if my takes are simply too visionary and far-reaching to be understood by someone as stupid, uneducated and uncurious as myself?

i mean this is a pretty new phenomenon, french facists a decade ago wouldn't have used WOKISME. it's also why the idea that american hegemony is diminishing is ridiculous, if anything its cultural dominance has reached new heights previously unimaginable, every single stupid culture war thing gets imported wholesale everywhere else

considering you can still just search on google for "super nintendo full rom set" and find a working link within two minutes, all these only clickbait.

if you want to actually talk about preservation, talk about copyright abolishment, everything else is basically irrelevant. also stop shilling these fpga trashboxes, you've got a million devices that can emulate games just as good that aren't single-use electronic trash.

It's genuinely mindboggling how bad it is. The story, quests and universe are somehow extremely bland, boring and senseless even for Bethesda's standards, there's genuinely like twenty barely unique dungeons stretched over like two thousand planets, I'd be surprised if there were more than 10 enemy types, the base-building feels even less relevant than in Fallout 4, the "powers" are irrellevant and how you unlock them is ridiculously repetitive, the crafting is so much worse than Fallout 4 and the whole new game plus system just doesn't work at all.

The one thing I feel actually kinda works is customizing your spaceship (no matter how clunky it is) but they ruin even that in New Game Plus by giving you a shitty non-customizable ship that is just stats-wise much better than any other ship you can probably buy, although new game plus also removes all money and items you earned so you couldn't buy another ship right away even if you wanted to. The ship they give you doesn't even have chairs for your companions so they just stand around awkwardly and it also doesn't have crafting stations, making it even more useless.

It's by far the worst thing they've ever made and that's saying something.

After playing starfield I don't think there's a single person working there who has ever understood anything about anything in the world.
