If you needed any more evedince that Abrahms is a fucking hack.
No, Cumberbatch is NOT Khan!
I repeat again, Cumberbatch is not playing Khan!!.
I bet you didn't see my huge twist! Don't spoil it!!
The original Khan and Kirk had history from the series that worked into the movie, while the remakes... don't. Why name him Khan if you are missing the whole backstory?
The name sold tickets is why.
Give us giant genetically superior space tiddies!
does he still painfully overuse lens flare
tbf the latter looks like a much more accurate portrayal of a fascist eugenicist.
Ricardo is 62 years old in that picture and could crush steel beams with his pecs.
Like, I'm not saying he's the product of ancient Lemurian super-science, but I also want t be very clear that I am not saying that he's not the product of ancient Lemurian super-science either.
Jesus, hope I look like that at 62
It's all in the context; Khan was about creating supermen; the latter looks more akin to what the Nazis thought of themselves. Nazis weren't just about being ubermensch, they also believed they had the superior culture; Khan was not about superior culture, but simply superior form. They were basically scientist-barbarians.
Which, like, fuck yes. I am extremely down with evil poertic science-barbarians.
Khan the character is said to be from northern India in Space Seed and they then saw someone who wasn't entirely white, said 'close enough' and hired Ricardo Montlbanc
the khan episode of the original series is so cool and the movie is great too. the whole eugenics war backstory feels so evocative for something that's just a backdrop for a singular episode of a show they didn't even know would turn into something as beloved as star trek.
ill also always love the fact that lenard nimoy was like "okay ill do the stupid movie but only if you kill my character so ill never have to do play him again" and then went like "oh actually..." after the movie turned out great. kind of a shame that they brought him back at all with just how fantastic the entire ending sequence to wrath of khan is.
I like when they're talking about Khan's history in the magic briefing room and everyone is throwing Khan some gotta hand it to hims. And then Spock says the Dril tweet.
First they came for the bimbos in video games.
Now they're coming for the himbos in movies.
He's too clever and dastardly to be a Himbo
23rd Century rizz
I liked Into Darkness. the whole bent arc of Nemo's attack jump starting Section 31 and of course it immediately inducing them to have the worst strategic plan, the worst idea to execute it, getting most of starfleet leadership killed, and almost destroying the federation. in retrospect, they speedran Operation Cyclone and hit 9/11 in the first 20 minutes. and then, to try and clean it up fast and on the hush, tried to do an Operation Northwoods in the next 30. that's great popcorn eating for me. I like my movie assholes to be redlining it the whole time, tyvm.
I guess that makes me King of the Assholes.
It reminded me of the V for Vendetta movie where they bent the universe on a way that’s didn’t make sense so they could make it about bush doing 9/11
Imo those changes were one of the few things about the film that truly slapped — the UK is quite capable of going full fash without a nuclear apocalypse
Even when I was a lib, it chaffed me that they changed the violent uprising/riot from the end of the book to blowing up a single empty building and taking to the streets in an unrealistically controlled, directed manner. It’s been a while, but I think the monologue even implied that the country’s government isnt even being overthrown, just reforming as a liberal democracy with this single bombing acting as a “warning” towards them.
The ending of the original is quite pessimistic though iirc? I take your point, but imho giving it a big emotive movie-style ending wasn't a terrible choice. See also, Fight Club
Can't even do a Eugenics War while wearing a plastic pec breastplate and lounging on rich Corinthian leather anymore because of woke, smh
That was pure Ricardo, the plastic plate thing was a false rumor from around the time of production. Dude was just into bodybuilding
Naming my next Everquest II character Ricardo Montalbong in remembrance of all his hard work on his himbo tiddies
Sick name, but have you heard the guy talk? He's too sartorial in his speech to be a himbo. I think he was just a real go-getter.

I genuinely think the aesthetics 2005-2015 were some of the "safest" ever. It's really crazy in such a booming era of the new "endless blockbuster season" that things looked so very plain on screen. Visually things were just so "safe" visually on screen.
I worked with Ricardos grandson at a weed factory. Kind of a California douche, as would be expected.
