Semiconductors and all kinds of other commercial uses for gold, but it is kind of specific given the rest of the list
So we basically need to convince libs to build a kind of dual power via local government? That's pretty much what Lenin was saying in 1917, but it wasn't necessarily local vs national gov for them. I think it would work very similarly tho
Firefighters in areas with regular forest fires don't have "surplus" equipment
They definitely do? Surplus is more than just extra shit sitting in storage until you need it. You gotta maintain that equipment, which requires people, time, and money. If the equipment isn't maintained it would be just as useless as not having it at all. Obviously there is a line somewhere when it becomes too costly to maintain surplus equipment and it's better to get rid of it.
I'm not saying LAFD is run well or defending any of this shit, but to call people morons (kinda ableist btw) over this is silly and you're wrong anyway
Kids? That's the marines specialty
Plato is a good place to start if you're already comfortable reading difficult texts. Mainly because of how influential he was to all of the other western philosophers. A more modern starting point would probably be Bertrand Russel, most of his stuff is easier to parse.
If you're purely interested in the historical context of these ideas and their influences on societies, I'd say read it mostly "in order" as the ideas tend to build on one another. If you're trying to understand some specific aspects of life or something, like you're interested in the philosophy part itself and not just the historical context then I'd say write your questions down and look for the authors who discuss them the most.
Anyway, Diogenes is the only ancient philosopher worth a fuck and the meaning of life is to overthrow our oppressors
Williams believes extremists will try to murder him after this story is published. And if they fail, he thinks he’ll “live to see the United States cease to exist.” He identifies with the violent abolitionist John Brown, who tried to start a slave revolt two years before the American Civil War and was executed. Williams thinks he himself may not be seen as such a radical soon, he told me. “I wonder if I’m maybe a little too early.”
The first two things they should already be doing all the time. It would actually be funny if there was a way to make the inauguration crowd small af, but funny is all it would be. The kazoo bit makes my whole body hurt just reading it
Absolutely. I didn't realize how bad it was until I had some content get out of my niche and got thousands of comments on a video. People are incredibly confident in their own opinions and refuse to investigate or think twice about anything. They'll make the same comment as hundreds of other people, asking the same question that's already answered in the description. I don't know how they do it, but people legitimately say whatever comes to mind and then never ever think about it again
This story seems to play out a lot with the US govt. Likely due to the lack of any real long-term planning.
- Oh no China is taking some of our control over X
- Do nothing for a while
- Scramble to stop China from completely taking over X
- Waste billions on propaganda, cost everyone money via tariffs, sanctions, bans, etc
- Realize it was never going to work and give up
- Do nothing for a while
- Start at step 1 again
DHMO asphyxiation is the leading cause of death amongst sailors in the US Navy. Support our troops and write to your senators to ban DHMO today!
I kinda feel bad for people like that AOC stan. They are genuinely close to the right answers, but can't overcome the mountains of propaganda. It's not an easy thing to do and almost all of us were once in a similar position. Very few people in capitalist countries become communists, even fewer get there without being a turbo lib or some kind of libertarian first.
I replied in that chain somewhere to let that person know they'd be a communist in 5 years or they're gonna be a fascist. They'll go down the anti communist rabbit hole or they'll read an actual book written by a communist. Part of me thinks we should stop doing this sort of thing completely and focus entirely on good faith engagement with anyone to the left of Hillary Clinton and just ban everyone else. Should we be encouraging outright bullying of someone who genuinely seems to be an anticapitalist? Probably not. Not even just because of the danger to neurodiverse people, but also it seems like a bad strategy to dogpile.
Idk as a communist or even just a leftist in general it seems like I'm obligated to help people get a better understanding of...reality? At least the realities of capitalism, imperialism, propaganda, etc. I don't really care if someone wants to be a communist or not as long as we can agree on reality. What is CIA propaganda? What is just something I've heard all my life for no reason other than to make me hate communism? Etc. Anyway, what I mean is that I think we should be more focused on getting people to agree that capitalism is bad and communism is good than we should on just being mean to random libs and baby anarchists or whatever the hell that AOC stan is
Sorry, I feel like I'm really off topic. I'm just going to post this because I'll delete it if I think too much longer
Kinda surprised none of the Dems voted for this guy, not even Fetterman or that one CIA lady from Michigan
