I mean what else is supposed to be the outcome of decades of defunding social services? There is no choice (for you or me)

I'm guessing by "reform" they mean taking the whole thing private? What is it with these ghouls having such a hard on for the us

They only took it down in the messy asf mod catalogue from the latest doom re-release; pretty sure it's still playable via any other previously available method. That catalogue is a complete disaster anyway, lots of people's work being uploaded by randos and uncredited, lots of the catalogue entries completely not working, many duplicates, but Bethesda only lifts a finger when Margaret Thatcher's name is on the line lmfao

Right? How can anything truly be "apolitical"? Apolitical to me means that it's not ruffling any feathers politically, which would mean it has the politics of hegemony.

Also an apolitical game from a studio who sent out memos to influencers to not talk about "feminist propaganda"? Idek what's going on there exactly, but it sure is political in some way

This is what makes me think the "creative differences" were the execs putting their foot down on making a copaganda film, when the creatives probably had something else in mind.

spoiler for spider verse 2Who wants to bet that the alternate earth Miles ends up on at the end of the film is just an uncomplicated hero-less "crime world".

Expecting big cringe in 2027

Death to plausibly deniable lesbians >:(

Quite a good breakdown by Laura Kate Dale of Nintendo's handling of recent games featuring playable women characters from franchises usually headed up by men i.e. recent Peach game and upcoming Legend of Zelda game featuring the titular Zelda.

Featuring such Aonuma bangers as:

If we have Princess Zelda as the main character who fights, then what is Link going to do?

The triforce is made up of Princess Zelda, Ganon and Link. Princess Zelda is obviously female; if we made Link a female, we thought that would mess with the balance of the triforce - that's why we decided not to do it.

We feel like what takes priority is this idea of gameplay. If it turns out that particular gameplay we're trying to bring to fruition would be best served by having Zelda take that role, then it's possible that that could be a direction we could take.

i.e. Zelda has featured exclusively MANLY gameplay up to this point btw

So when rich people do this it's called "innovative" and "disrupting the market", but if you do it FBI busts down your door for being a criminal. Sounds like freedom to me jack

Nothing new for those more learned among us perhaps, but I found it to be a good write-up with lots of different voices featured throughout. I definitely learned more of the context around gamergate (esp good I think if you weren't plugged in to what was going on at the time). Probably the most shocking was to hear how black women were seen/treated by the victims of gamergate hate raids.

For a more game design focused take on racism in games, I've heard great things about Repairing Play: A Black Phenomenology by Aaron Trammell. I struggle with books, so if anyone has any videos taking on the topic from that angle, I'd love if you shared it

Casual reminder that the internet was a DARPA of the US Department of Defence invention and that the US still controls vital parts of the internet infrastructure today

all it looks like is a glorified indie title that won't even sell a million units

One of the main tricks of liberal propaganda is to make every day people identify very personally with the ruling class. With a corporation the size of Nintendo, the amount of copies of any game that the company sells will have so little impact on anything, and yet you have gamers who have ghoulish executives' public statements living in their head rent free – this person sees some news about a game "not selling according to expectations" and their first instinct is to think of the poor executive class who won't even sell a million copies! What's even the point of art if you can't make it into a product that can sell at least 1 mil copies, you know? They've successfully been indoctrinated into thinking (and spending real, human time & energy worrying) about Nintendo's line going up over any other consideration

meat from a dairy cow sent to slaughter was found to contain particles of the H5N1 avian influenza virus last week – sparking concern over the risk of transmission via the food supply.

USDA have stressed that the US meat supply is safe, but have encouraged meat-eaters to cook beef to an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit – which is classified as ‘well done’.

another great reason to stop eating beef

the trans characters were definitely there for a joke by shrek 3, but in 2 it feels different because of the overarching queer themes of the plot. alternatively, my standards for queer representation are probably through the floor, because shrek 2 was one of the few times (maybe the first?) i had been exposed to the idea of trans people existing as a transfem child
