Boomer forgot how millennials are old enough to have had to have film developed.

Nah, that weeb is probably fine. Save your missile strikes for the thin blue line/ammosexual/deranged trump supporter trucks

Nobody ever laughed in my face or told all their friends or spread rumors about me, they just said no thank you and I moved on.

I was in college by the time you were in high school, and I totally had friends who had that happen. I don't know if kids are more cruel now or if you had an exceptionally kind group of peers.

Maybe there’s more implementation nuance here but it seems like an opinionated rule that has zero effect on performance unless that code is being called thousands of times every second

It's good practice to get in the habit of coding to only do the things you want/need to do rather than hoping the compiler does it for you.

This particular constructor call may be light, but there may be constructors that have a lot of overhead. Or you might be running alongside 1000 other processes who said the same thing and you start to see performance degradation.

Thank you for this

I really appreciated him saying 'I don't want yes men, I need people to call me on my bullshit, but I'm calling you out on yours'.

I read through the next few replies, and it seems like the anti-rust maintainer just has an axe to grind and can't stand people working in a language they don't understand.

Huh, that description of a disassociated childhood sounds a lot like my memories of my childhood, growing up poor with a broken/drug addled family. Definitely would explain a lot...

Shopify is a Nazi company, or at least sympathetic to Nazis.

No, things are actually getting worse, and saying otherwise is just denying how things are falling apart around us.

Shit take, 3/10

And guess who was one of the conspirator? Big daddy (Prescott) Bush.

Gods, in the span of 20 years we've gone from a president descended from an attempted fascist overthrow to watching the fascist overthrow happen through "legal" means.

The CIA now believes the virus responsible for the coronavirus pandemic most likely originated from a laboratory, according to an assessment released on Saturday that points the finger at China even while acknowledging that the spy agency has “low confidence” in its own conclusion.

A low confidence finding essentially means the evidence to support that theory is incomplete or questionable.

Aside from the fact that even the CIA doesn't believe this, isn't this the same shit we talked about 2 years ago?

You need to remember that the technical people may not have an issue with it, but the bean counters tend to be more stuffy and upright about shit. And a lot of clients are especially up tight in my experience. Something about paying you money and expecting standard business responses.

I wouldn't give a shit if I saw that, but I absolutely would not send that up the chain if a junior sent me that screenshot (or I'd crop it down to the most useful info. Last thing I want to do is listen to some asshole c-level complain at me for 20 minutes about professionalism.
