Gallacher later told 404 Media that the email was something of “a joke,” but reaffirmed the agency’s wish to obtain a Cybertruck before other agencies, even if more for “community engagement” than using it as a patrol vehicle.

In other words, we have too much money.

So, it's clear that a small subpopulation is preferentially tweeting links to sources of misinformation, and for many users, they're the most significant source of exposure to these sites. So who are these people?

They're a bit more likely to be female. While both the comparison groups were roughly evenly split between male and female, the superspreaders were 60 percent female. They're also older, on average 58 years old, nearly 20 years older than the sample as a whole. And, while much of the misinformation about the election largely circulated within Republican circles, only 64 percent of the superspreaders were registered Republicans (nearly 20 percent were registered as Democrats).

She said she was then advised to withdraw money from her bank accounts and deposit it through a Bitcoin machine, where it would remain in an account for safekeeping until the investigation was over.

That poor woman. Even if she hadn’t seen all the other red flags, this was the flare gun shot in the night sky.

It’s not about me, it’s about sending people directly to the thing they’re reading about.

A link to the project would be a good start.

At launch, Google's VP of Real Estate & Workplace Services, David Radcliffe, said the site "marks the first time we developed one of our own major campuses, and the process gave us the chance to rethink the very idea of an office." The result is a wild tent-like structure with a striking roofline made up of swooping square sections.

In other words, they erected themselves a circus tent. Ironic.

Connell wasn't the only actor surprised to find that props promised by the script didn't actually exist.

So there was never a dress rehearsal and the performance was a cold read? AI may be to blame for the bad script, but there many other points of failure happening here.

Health officials in Kingston confirmed on Friday that Avian Flu, also known as bird flu, was detected in a rash of sick and dying Geese found on the Lake Ontario waterfront.

The City of Kingston said last week that it was investigating after finding approximately 30 dead Canadian Geese that showed signs of an illness.

Avian Flu was detected at a poultry farm in western Quebec last month. Experts from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency say the virus spreads through feces and the nasal and eye discharges of infected birds.

Health Canada says there are 23 active investigations in Canada for domestic birds infected with Avian Flu, mostly at poultry farms. There is one investigation in Ontario at a poultry farm in the town of Amherstburg.

[…] being able to say, "wherever you get your podcasts" is a radical statement. Because what it represents is the triumph of exactly the kind of technology that's supposed to be impossible: open, empowering tech that's not owned by any one company, that can't be controlled by any one company, and that allows people to have ownership over their work and their relationship with their audience.

What podcasting holds in the promise of its open format is the proof that an open web can still thrive and be relevant, that it can inspire new systems that are similarly open to take root and grow.

The audit concludes that most investigators had not completed core training, which "could be negatively impacting the quality of investigations."

The audit says no investigator working under the $35 million criminal investigations program had completed the full set of required courses — and less than half of them had completed the CBSA's introductory course, called "Foundations of Criminal Investigations."

"The impact of no training is significant," said another CBSA employee quoted in the audit report, "because you're not supposed to enforce legislation without training."

It's not clear what the current rates of completion are for CBSA investigators.

A Casey Neistat Vision Pro video posted over the weekend was, he says, simply intended to be a piece of silly fun – wearing the device while catching metro trains and walking through Times Square.

But he said that in the course of making the video, he had a totally unexpected experience, which convinced him that this type of device is the future of computing…

Apple CEO Tim Cook told CNBC in a statement shared on live television that Apple has no intention to license Masimo's patents. While it seemed likely that was the case, the company hadn't said as much publicly until now.

"We're focused on appeal," Cook's statement said. "There's lots of reasons to buy the watch even without the blood oxygen sensor."

Before joining Mastodon I remember reading about how instance owners could potentially have access to their user’s chats and messages. I don’t think I ever saw this about Lemmy, or at least never looked into that much. Is that also the case here? How much info is accessible by the owners here?

That said I love the service and am happy to be here lol

The deepfake Swift urged viewers to click a button and answer a few questions before the end of the day. The ad then sent people to websites mimicking outlets such as the Food Network, highlighting news coverage of Le Creuset alongside testimonials from fake customers, the New York Times reported.

Participants were asked to pay a “small shipping fee of $9.96” for the cookware […]

Honestly, it’s impressive that the scam worked given the number of hoops people had to jump through. I suppose at a certain point you’re so committed that the red flags on the screen look like hearts.

Are there any technical/performance reasons why I couldn’t create an instance for myself and host a Plex server off of the same machine at home?

I’m fairly new to self-hosting in general, so any insight would be appreciated!

EDIT: I completely forgot to mention that this would be for a Mastodon instance, not for Lemmy.
