positivesGymrat shit has been going good

Down to my healthiest weight in a decade+

Noticing some real change around my tummy and face, and my legs are honestly looking pretty damn good and my hips are really getting defined. Feeling pretty good about that. Down about 11 pounds since 11/11.

Feel like I've gotten back to the maintenance phase where the muscle gains metabolic improvements take precedence and my activity level and diet make the fat loss easier now after the initial hard phase of "oh shit I haven't done this in years" getting back into the swing of things

negatives, self crit, alcoholism and nicotine addiction, mental health and relationshipsDespite feeling pretty good about myself physically, December 2024 was easily my worst month in a year mentally. Relapsed on alcohol and cigarettes, had several ugly arguments with my POS dad, lost my temper several times to the point of injuring myself raging at inanimate objects that were fucking with me like my shitty car's trunk and hurt my hand punching it because the trunk wouldn't latch and it doesn't hold open anymore and after a rough day that was the straw that broke the camel's back

Gonna try making it through 2025 without buying cigarettes or booze but it's been a struggle

Feeling really burned out and low and lonely and frustrated

Need a career instead of a job. Need a new car. Need irl friends and a partner and physical affection from human beings instead of cats. Need to be kinder to myself mentally and rest and eat better instead of impulsively wanting to make drastic changes overnight. I'm gonna commit to reconnecting with IRL ppl and finishing my degree and finding better work and getting to a point where I at least feel okay about how I'm doing personally vs my circumstances. 2025 might be the year I finally get my shit together to an acceptable degree. It's so much work and I started in such a low place and it's fucking exhausting but I've at least hit the point again where I can't not put in the work now without it bothering me more than putting it off, so I'm building better habits and making progress

Want to get back into practicing and making music too,.a creative writing/game mod project, build a new PC, learn how to ice skate and play pickup/rec league hockey and go snowboarding and hiking/mountain climbing again

I feel simultaneously incredibly bleak about the immediate future and state of the world and better about my own life and prospects than I have in more than a decade and it's a strange feeling

I may be a weird queer mess but my legs are very strong and I have some real "not one step back" ass willpower lately

Self Improvement

315 readers
58 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
