What geopolitical risks. China has made the same claims to Taiwan for 70 years now.

Not so sure the US is coming to the rescue this time.

listening to the stories of the workers in these plants sometimes makes it feel like the taiwanese are grey rocking this rollout and that would make sense given that the intention of the chips act is to reduce geopolitical risks like our dependency on taiwan's semiconductor industry in case of future heightened trade disputes or war with china.

It's to steal tsmc tech and the profits associated with it. The military doesn't need leading tech. Intels 14nm+++++++++ is fine as well. Never heard of stories from the plant but I don't think they are capable of operating without Taiwanese workers.

all the more reason to grey rock efforts to re-establish semiconductor manufacturing outside of taiwan.

also: npr did some coverage on the people who are building these fabs and you can hear their stories of the crazy treatement they're getting from the taiwanese leadership.
