It's real, but not a commercial product. I think it was made by students, either as an engineering project or a computing project or something similar
It was made for a tech competition as a joke. Originally it was designed for quitting vaping but they thought it would get more attention in the competition if it was "evil" so they made it evil.
And then we laugh and go, "What a sick and crazy idea and by pointing out how crazy it is, society will learn not to do this."
And then a decade later, you'll see it in stores.

It would be much darker if they made it so that the more you smoke the more quickly the 'pet' dies.
Reading the comments, thats actually how is it was designed, but for the lols they switched it to be "evil" as a lark.
The actual designed is that way
