Why do smokers of all kinds have to smoke right in front of the door of every fucking building?

[-] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 96 points 9 months ago

I remember when they did it INSIDE buildings. And cars. Schools, hospitals... if you lived through the 80's you just have the pervasive smell of tobacco registered as a prime core memory.

I use to live in Vegas as a child occasionally. We'd sometimes go to the casinos for shows and have to cross The Floor

I can still feel it on my skin decades and decades later

[-] CascadianGiraffe@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

I remember looking for the grocery carts with built in ashtray.

[-] TaTTe@lemmy.world 77 points 9 months ago

Because they're selfish inconsiderate pricks who can't fathom how disgusting they truly are.

[-] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 29 points 9 months ago

Because that tiny overhang is the only goddamn shade/rain shelter in this entire city block. People love designating "that spot over there" as the smoking spot but hate putting any sort of shelter from the elements.

[-] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago

Go get wet fucker, I give no fucks, you chose to smoke not me.

[-] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

I also give no fucks, so here we are.

"I don't care about your comfort (and your health a little, but its your choice)"

"Well I don't care about your health(or your comfort, but its my choice), so here we are."

I swear to god I am going to carry a fucking bucket of water from now on

[-] beansbeansbeans@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

So? Whoever brought the cigarettes should bring a jacket or umbrella too.

That spot "over there" is so the smelly smoke can also stay "over there" and not end up in the lungs of healthy people.

[-] pebbles@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 months ago

It felt like that for me in a lot of Europe, but not America.

[-] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 2 points 9 months ago

Probably because they're addicted, enjoy the high, and don't have the means or strength of character to quit.

[-] superniceperson@sh.itjust.works 21 points 9 months ago

Or they have undiagnosed ADHD and haven't associated the effect of nicotine with their seminormality mask they can only maintain with legal stimulants.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 9 months ago

Nic + Caff + Vyvanse = Good day

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 3 points 9 months ago

Vyvanse just made me super fuckin high, maybe I don't have the ADHD after all.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah maybe you don't. I feel just focused and calm on it and able to do stuff.

[-] CoolMatt@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago

At my apartment buulding they stand right in front of the no smoking sign at the front step to the building on the building's property where smoking is not allowed. If they stabd 5 ft over, they're on the sidewalk where it's okay.

But nope, they have to stand right there.
